I feel disconnected and alone. I don't have anyone around that really understands my problem. I don't want to burden my friends and family with my concerns. I'm worried someone will judge me if I tell them the truth. Have you had some of these thoughts? Fear of being judged or burdensome keeps a lot of people from finding the help they want.

Exploring your family of origin is the start of the story.
The story of our lives often shape our day to day experiences. As we open up to our story and how we ended up at a certain space in our lives, we begin to see patterns. We begin to see unhealthy ways we have responded to people, relationships that have been less than productive, or events that unfolded different than we had hoped. In order to grow and set a new course, we need to identify the patterns that have lead us here. Therapy is about doing just that - uncovering underlying, most the time subconscious, ways of thinking, so that we can become the people that we want to be.

Is your adolescent struggling in school? Are you having difficulty keeping his/her behavior under control? Is your child acting differently (isolating themselves, arguing more than usual, avoiding peers, self-harming)? Are you struggling with a divorced or blended family situation? I would love to be able to help you, your child, and your family. I have been working with at-risk, troubled youth and their families for over 15 years. This includes working closely with the school, juvenile system, and medical practitioners, as well.

All of us experience a need to work through what life so unmercifully hands to us and working with a therapist is nothing of which to be ashamed and has the potential to give you and/or your family greater insight and tools to become the person(s) you so long to be going forward.
Are you feeling depressed, anxious, and not sure where to turn or what to do? Over the years I have worked with individuals who experience depression and anxiety while having gone through emotional, verbal, and physical abuse myself, I am able to empathize and understand those who are dealing with depression and anxiety from life's experiences.

My training includes EMDR (trauma care), Family Systems, Grief/Loss, PSI (Pre/Postpartum Depression/Anxiety/OCD for moms/dads/families), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Training (DBT).
Hi, I'm Michele. I'm glad you're here. I know how a situation, involving yourself or a loved one, can consume your life. I became a therapist because I've experienced similar circumstances. Those moments have led me to be an empathetic and effective counselor. We will take things at your pace. This is your time, and we will work together to find healing and growth.

Investing time to know my clients is essential to me as we are all impacted by family, social, cultural, and economical factors. I feel it is important that clients are given a safe space to share their stories. I have worked with children, teens, married couples, parents, and adults with various life situations, including people experiencing homelessness and addiction. I also have a history of working with individuals involved in ministry settings. I am a practical strategist for supporting people through life’s difficulties. As a heartfelt listener I love to help people find hope when they otherwise feel stuck.

Uncovering the past to understand who we are is a difficult journey to take alone. Our minds are incredibly powerful, and we are designed to find safety. However, sometimes these attempts to find, maintain, or hold onto the familiar creates problems in the present. This could look like relationship problems, lower job satisfaction, perfectionism, low motivation, etc. By building awareness of who we are as individuals and who we are in relationships with others, we are better able to respond to fears and challenges as they arise.

Life can be full of ups and downs and sometimes it can be hard to ride those waves. Sometimes we need a lifeline – something or someone we can hold onto to help us ride out the storms. Knowing who to turn to for help can sometimes feel overwhelming because you want to know that the person you choose has the right tools to help you and is also someone you feel understands what you are going through. Change begins when we choose to take action and taking this first step of seeking out a therapist who can be that lifeline is evidence of your desire to find hope and healing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
