I have over twenty years of experience working with children, families, couples, individuals, and groups. I have ample experience working Latinx clients, immigrant families, and multiracial couples. If you suffer issues such as: depression, anxiety, or relational issues ( couples problems, mother/father and children disagreements, siblings fights) give yourself the opportunity to improve your relationships. For years, I have been working with children who have suffered traumatic events and their families. I am an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Approved Supervisor, and I supervise Therapy students.

I specialize in helping clients navigate family and relationship problems, life transitions, traumatic experiences, loss, pregnancy and parenting, and medical conditions they or a family member have.
When we find ourselves held back or stuck in life, it can be difficult to see another way. We may go through the motions of each day, but know deep down that we feel unhappy, anxious, vulnerable, scared, and hurt. Our history, identities, and relationships are key to understanding why we feel stuck, and how we can feel free. I am committed to helping you feel free. Free to be your authentic self, to choose what you want in life, and to let go of or make peace with the things that no longer serve you, so that you can lead a life rich with meaning, love, and growth.

My entire therapeutic practice is based on three words: I believe you. How often in life (both past and present) have individuals struggled with someone believing them? How easy it is to be judged and misunderstood. A lack of being believed, coupled with being both judged and misunderstood are often what create low self-esteem, depression, trauma, fear and anxiety: all of which can affect relationships, friendships, family life, work, school etc. With support, change and healing are realistic possibilities.

My approach to therapy is strength based, with the overarching goal to help individuals, couples, and families gain awareness of the patterns in their life and how these patterns are influencing their current relationships with their partners, colleagues, family and friends.
I believe that you can create the change and happiness that you want. I believe in creating a safe and healing space where you are able to explore what is brining you to therapy. I have extensive experience working with trauma survivors; and believe therapy is a space where you are able to decide how you want to be supported and when. More importantly, I am excited to serve you, as you create the changes in your life. Piece by piece, building the life that you deserve and want.

My primary focus is Marriage, Family, and Couples therapy.
Hi! I’m Deneen Holmes and I like using humor to help my clients feel connected and safe. Everyone can benefit from having someone listen to them with patience, empathy, and understanding. When we bear witness to another’s experience, we help them feel seen and cared for as individuals. This type of connection allows us to work through tough times more easily. I approach sessions with clients by understanding, it is okay to not be okay. My goal is to provide the space to show up and work towards the goals they have for themselves and their lives, which creates a calm yet motivating atmosphere to pave the way for healing and comfort.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
