I am heavily influenced by Existential-Humanistic Theories, the meaning and purpose of life, and Family Systems Theories, how each person is affected by every family member and by the family as a whole.
My approach in therapy is to respect each individual as a whole person. I believe each person knows himself or herself best. Rather than just treating the symptom(s), I attempt to get to know the person well enough to guide them into insights of the CAUSES of their problems. My ultimate goal is to help each individual achieve the healthiest level of well-being and highest developmental level of functioning. Whenever appropriate, I work with multiple members of the same family in order to strengthen the family and/or marriage.

family and domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, developmental disorders and behavioral issues.
My practice is driven by the perspective that we all have the unlimited capacity to heal any negative life circumstance. It is my philosophy that the biggest challenges in life hold the greatest capacity for positive change. I work in collaborative partnership with my clients, and it is my goal, first and foremost, to create a warm, safe environment where a trusting therapeutic relationship can be cultivated. I believe it is our birthright to be free of the obstacles that inhibit our ability to become the most authentic version of ourselves.

This often involves going back to their childhood and family of origin.
Trauma is not just the big, obvious events that happen to us. It is also the small, but significant, experiences that teach us about who we are, where we belong, and what we deserve. The way that we coped with these experiences in the past may be wreaking havoc in the present. Therapy with me often involves digging into the past and those negative beliefs that continue to show up. We may use EMDR and other experiential techniques process what happened to you or around you. It becomes easier to make behavioral and relational changes once those old beliefs have been let go and replaced with more adaptive ways of thinking.

She has over twenty years’ experience working with developmental disabilities, major mental illnesses, domestic violence victims, family therapy, etc.
With experience working in two state hospitals with developmental disabilities and forensic issues, I have worked with numerous major mental disorders and behavioral issues. Currently, I have been working with individuals experiencing anxiety and stress due to today's problems. I especially enjoy working with teens and adults searching for ways to deal with personal issues. I believe in brief therapy, focusing on the issues and searching for cooperative methods of alleviating those issues.

As a Catholic, you are struggling to improve your marriage, family, career, performance, or spiritual life. You’re someone who desires more for yourself and those you love but still find yourself struggling to progress, feeling like your efforts never seem to move the needle, leaving you more and more burnt out. You’re feeling dissatisfied, like you're just going through the motions, but you’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to understand what's tripping you up. You’re ready to learn new skills to improve. Most of all, you’re ready to live with purpose and find a sense of peace. I want to help you get there.

I’m a marriage and family therapist with extensive training and experience in couples, individual, and family counseling.
Tell me if this sounds familiar— you and your partner aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on an issue. This turns into a frustrating argument with hurt feelings, and one of you wants to fix things right now, while the other wants a break. In the meantime, both of you feel unheard and are becoming more disconnected from each other. Maybe you aren’t struggling in a relationship, but you don’t have motivation or excitement in life. You have tried pushing through hard days, but it doesn’t seem to be working and you want a new path forward. Whatever your road to arrive on my profile, I am so glad you did. Let me explain how I might be able to help.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Often it is hard to see. Sometimes the issues we are dealing with can feel like they are crushing us. The cycle of depression and anxiety might feel never-ending. It can get better! These issues could stem from traumatic life events. Perhaps we are just overwhelmed juggling work, life, and family, and have lost sight of ourselves. Sometimes we struggle to work things out. We all need a little help and guidance at times. I use an integrative approach to assist clients in navigating difficult periods in their lives. I work with adults 18 years and older.

Take a deep breath. What do you notice? Maybe it's a heaviness on your shoulders from the worry that kept you up all night. Maybe it's tension on your neck knowing you're walking in the door to another fight with your significant other. Perhaps it's emptiness in your chest from the shame that has been there so long it has left you feeling numb. Although I am not sure exactly what brought you here, I wonder if you are seeking relief. Seeking change. Hoping for something, perhaps anything, different. Different in you, in your marriage, in your child or maybe your whole family. I am glad you're here.

Navigating this journey without a guide may cause us to 'hit a wall', creating a negative image of ourselves that may impact our abilities to live happy, healthy lives. Let's start our partnership today!

As I tell my friends and family - interview your therapist and make sure you feel comfortable and that it's a good fit.
Are you feeling lost? Overwhelmed? Do you avoid certain situations because of the anxiety that comes with them? Do you think you want therapy but can't afford to take the time? You’re not alone. I’ve worked with hundreds of people who have been exactly where you are. Together we’ve worked to be able to increase their confidence to face new situations as well as handle current situations that seem too much. I also support people in dealing with whatever happened in the past so that they can have a future without strings tying them to the past.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
