Ruth Bullock has over 30 years of experience as a counselor working with adults, teens, and children. Ruth has a clinical background in mental disorders and substance use disorders, and is a licensing supervisor. Ruth provides individual, family and couples counseling.

I am passionate about working with individuals and families who are open to learning about themselves. People usually come to therapy when things are going badly or feeling out of control, so the beginning stages are about defining the issues as well as strengths. The client and I act as a team through our working relationship, to focus on positive change and growing insight about their lives. Self confidence increases, communication skills improve, and willingness to value perspectives of others are important milestones in the therapeutic process.

It can be difficult at times to ask for help, but there is no shame in it. As a therapist, I am not fixing your problems, I am providing you with tools and objective insights to aid you in solving the challenges that you are currently facing. You are the one in control of the journey and are the one setting the goals for your life. Each person is unique, whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, life crises, past or current trauma, or relationship issues I am here to listen and to provide feedback in an empathetic and objective manner.

For clients who need assistance working through current circumstances or emotional struggles, I provide space within the professional treatment relationship to facilitate the development of inner stability which helps clients effectively recover from difficult emotional material. Loss, grief and bereavement, recent or remote trauma, adjustment challenges, relationship struggles, and so much more may bring clients to my office, where they will find a safe place to unearth, process and ultimately resolve feelings, as well as increasing their level of social, emotional, occupational, academic, and day to day functioning.

Currently accepting new clients as of 3/18/2024. I enjoy working with individuals who are coping with trauma, substance use, anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, grief and loss, and more. I work alongside clients to help them identify their ideal outcomes as they navigate through obstacles and learn new skills to achieve a more balanced, fulfilling, life. I am open to working with couples and families on a case by case basis.

Growing up in Southeast Alaska, water became a part of my life, whether it was fishing, swimming, or the endless amounts of rain. Even on the stormiest of days the water would always return to being still and calm. Over the years, I have found this to be a metaphor to life and the journeys we have.
