As a psychologist, I also offer Collaborative psychological evaluations which involve questions from the client, family members and system providers (schools, pediatricians, psychiatrists).
I enjoy working with children and adolescents of any age. Listening to children and teenagers is so important as they often can tell us what we need to know to support them. I use both talking and play to facilitate connection and communication. Interpersonal experiences affect our relationships and the way in which we interact with others. I have a strong background in family systems, school collaboration and developmental and attachment theory which is instrumental in my work with clients. I also work with families to facilitate communication when there is a disruption in the family system due to divorce or adoption.

Group along with individual, family therapy is most effective.
As a parent, you might have some concerns about your adolescent. They may be having a hard time making and keeping relationships with positive peers. They may be engaging in conflict with you about academics and rules in your home. The may not be able to regulate their negative emotions in a healthy way. Your attempts to provide advice and support may not seem like enough.

I work with adults, couples and families who are experiencing conflict, negative or anxious thoughts, feelings of being "stuck" or hopeless, lonely or insignificant. I also work with individuals and couples seeking infidelity recovery. God has a good plan for everyone but realizing that plan can be difficult today with the myriad of distractions and demands on our time and emotions. Situations like divorce, loss, health, betrayal, and other conditions can compound the struggle. I provide a reorienting, nurturing voice of compassion to walk beside you through those times, to help you appreciate your true self and enjoy life again.

I support people as they go through some of life's tougher times. I do not "fix" anyone. I help people remember the truth about their worth and value and guide them as they practice living from that truth whether it's for the first time or not. When we get afraid and empty, it is almost impossible to remember this by ourselves, and we need an experienced, knowledgable and loving ally to shine the light for us through the dark and confusing times.

Not accepting new clients
My patients have worked with me to address issues related to anxiety, depression, family challenges, intimate relationships, dealing with a new diagnosis, coming out, and adjusting to major life changes, among others.
Regardless of what you are seeking to change or improve, you do not have to be alone in the process. Through a collaborate effort with me, we can tackle life's challenges together and find solutions that benefit you in a meaningful and lasting way. I consider it a privilege to accompany my patients on their individual journeys of growth and maturation. If you are feeling unbalanced, detached, or immobilized by circumstances, we can work together and not only process these emotions, but come to the best solution.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
