Whoever said “Time heals all wounds” clearly never experienced trauma. When you face something so painful that it feels like it leaves a permanent mark on you, time doesn’t just make that go away. The good news is, healing is possible. You don’t have to suffer like this forever. As a mental health therapist, I work with people who have experienced deep hurt from other people. Maybe it was a parent who never seemed to have time for you. A spouse who belittled you. That family member who violated you. Or the friend who abandoned you.

Stressed? Tired? Can’t seem to get ahead? Don't like yourself? Finding that sense of security and strength in the midst of changes, challenges, and relationships is difficult, and some feel that taking time to stop and reflect is impossible; yet often it is one of the most important steps in moving forward or getting unstuck. Stopping and working with a trained therapist can help facilitate change in meaningful and impactful ways. It can also help avoid a complete life derailment. I believe that the work I do with my clients is sacred, which is why I employee some of the most up to date and clinically validated treatment techniques.

Have the terrible 2's never stopped or gotten worse after your child turned 2.5 yrs? Do you have a young child with more frequent, long, or intense temper tantrums and behavior problems than is expected for the child’s age? Does your child seem to get a thrill out of purposely annoying others, get in trouble regularly at preschool, or react with defiance and aggression to adult requests and limits? Or, is your child so anxious that you are dreading daycare or school drop offs because your child has to be pried off of you? Is your child struggling to adjust to a transition like parents’ divorce, a new sibling, grief, or trauma?

As a counselor, I believe that no person is beyond helping, regardless of prior therapy experience, life history, or their current situation. I provide a safe and welcoming environment in which people are able to talk without fear of judgment, and can feel heard and validated. I believe in treating the roots of the issues, rather than providing Band-Aids for symptoms, and am passionate about empowering individuals to recognize their own strengths and abilities. I provide therapy from an interpersonal perspective, in which I believe relationship is the catalyst for healing.

"Well, this isn’t working! What do I do now?" If you are wondering this, I welcome whatever you have to discuss. I love to see a client walk into the room, bursting with the issues carried on the heart, and experience the relief that comes from finally sharing these burdens out loud in a safe space. I see mostly women and female adolescents, plus a few men who want to dig deep. I work best with people who are ready to explore, looking for change, but aren't sure of how to get there.

Our mission is to increase accessibility to quality mental health and wellness services to the LGBTQ+ population. Maybe you just realized that you are gay or trans and you don’t know what to do next. Maybe you’re one of the many LGBTQ+ persons who have faced abuse, depression, anxiety, or other mental health struggles and are simply trying to exist. Maybe you're in a polyamorous/ENM relationship struggling with communication hangups, parenting, mismatched sexual desire or infidelity. Or maybe you spent your whole life shaming yourself for being "lazy," or "irresponsible," but you just can't seem to make your brain work with you.

Our world expects so much from people and we are often able to do it all, for a while. Sometimes expectations, both ours and others, smother us and leave us feeling hopeless. We might not be able to move forward in our career, despite excelling in our work. Sometimes we bury emotions, thinking I’ll get to that later, which may result in feeling overwhelmed or feeling nothing at all. Perhaps the demands of career, family, and caring for others leave us feeling exhausted and guilt-ridden. Possibly what has always worked, doesn’t seem to work anymore. Peace may feel out of reach.

I work with everyone and work with most insurance companies (except Medicare) and many EAPs. My primary practice focuses on the value and worth of women. I confront shame and self-blame. I believe therapy should be a place for growth and healing. As a clinician, I understand it is difficult to take the first steps of going to therapy and opening up to someone about your life or retelling your story after many attempts in therapy. My aim is to provide a safe place where you feel comfortable and accepted to allow space for vulnerability and change. I am passionate about working with adolescents and young adults on healing old wounds and moving forward with a healthy life.

Not accepting new clients
It takes tremendous courage to choose to walk through difficult places on the path towards healing, and it takes even more courage to invite a counselor to walk with you. I consider it an honor to join with my clients as they face the challenges in life, whether it be wounds from trauma, struggles with managing mood and thoughts, issues with relational functioning, sexuality or unhealthy coping.
I believe there is power in relationship and I consider it a joy to help clients learn how to better relate to themselves, others and the world around them.

I approach counseling with the understanding that all individuals have a unique story that is deserving of a safe space to process and heal. I believe that the counseling room can be a place that encourages hope and helps individuals enter into a healthier, deeper, and richer understanding of both themselves and others. Although I have a degree in Christian counseling, my practice welcomes individuals of all worldviews to engage with their stories in a way that invites restoration and healing. In addition to my time at Gordon-Conwell, I have been trained in EMDR, DBT Skills Training, and am a Certified First Responder Associate.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
