I provide individual and family therapy with adults and teens, dealing with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma and behavioral concerns.
As a therapist, I take pride in helping clients who are dealing with life stressors, that lead to increased anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation and constant unsettling out of body sensations leaving one feeling fearful and alone on a daily basis. Often, clients may wonder, "will I ever feel normal again." My goal is to form a positive alliance and rapport with my clients so you feel heard, understood, and comfortable in safe and secure setting. Finding the right fit with your therapist is hugely beneficial and often leads to better outcomes and return to a life of inner peace and overall functioning. IT DOES GET BETTER!

I help people heal from old wounds, improve relationships among family members, and live less conflicted lives.
Understanding our emotions is a skill we all must learn to prevent relationship conflict and to promote inner peace. There are reasons we have the deep feelings we experience. We just need to understand why we have our feelings and what causes us to suffer so much from them. We suffer from our emotions because something else is going on inside of us that we may not understand. It does not need to be this way. You can learn to know yourself better, sooth your emotions and improve your relationships with partners, kids, co-workers and friends.

I take holistic views of individuals, which is to say that I see each person as unique constructions of their experiences of family, community, and culture.
For the last 14 years I've been working with individuals, couples, and families to help them address the most important issues in their lives. I enjoy helping clients empower themselves by expanding emotional flexibility, building positive communication patterns, and contradicting negative self-concepts and feelings of isolation.

Individuals, couples and families are all seen as my ideal client. I typically see clients from the ages of 13 and up, but I do make some exceptions. Clients who are having difficulties with communicating their emotions, identifying their strengths and their core self, or having dysfunctional dyadic or family patterns are clients who I know I can help. Clients coming regularly and genuinely working with me to accomplish the goals we set out at the beginning of therapy are ideal. If you want to better yourself in any way, shape or form, I will be the person who will try my best to help you become the better self you aspire to be.

If your teen is struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, ADHD, trauma, school difficulties, low-motivation, family problems, or self-esteem issues, I can help.
Help for adolescents and adults. Our attempts to connect with others or express our fears and worries are often met with criticism or a "let's fix it and move on" attitude. It is normal to feel shame and fear, frustration, anger, and at times stuck. In therapy I give you the space to freely speak, be heard, and sit with an idea, thought, or feeling at your own pace. I will give you practical assistance for the challenges you are facing.

I enjoy working with individuals and families struggling with issues pertaining to addiction and substance abuse, as well as family conflict.
I enjoy working with individuals age 15 and older as well as couples and families. My style of counseling is an integrative one, combining humor, education, and interventions encompassing a broad range of therapeutic approaches. My experience includes a strong background in mental health and addiction counseling. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness based practices. I bring with me an array of life experiences working and traveling abroad. I believe change can happen in a few focused sessions. Therapy does not necessarily have to be long term to be effective.

Guiding influences: the philosophy & practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (beliefs influence feelings & functioning) & Bowen Family Systems Theory (building confidence and independence).
I have over 20 years experience helping high school aged teens (14-18), adults, couples and families. My therapy style is friendly and casual. I believe humor is healing and I use it often. I also teach theory guided interventions/skills that are effective at creating desired change and reducing negative symptoms. My approach has been refined by my clients. They want empathetic listening, but they also want to learn and grow. I would like to partner with you to reach your goals.

I hold a humanistic view of counseling and wellness. I believe everyone is equipped with the potential to heal and fully experience a life well-lived; however, this potential is sometimes stifled by our past hurts, present fears or a feeling of simply being stuck. While diagnostic language is sometimes helpful and appropriate, my therapeutic approach views human suffering through a non-pathologizing lens. I see humanistic, client-centered treatment as a more powerful, humane and effective alternative to the medical model of mental health care.

I perceive life as a journey, consisting of searching meaning and coping: Meaning in different roles and aspects of life motivates us to move forward; coping is strategies to get there from here. However, at different life stages, we often got stuck because of different reasons. Thus, either we no longer can see the life meaning(s) and/or our coping strategies are no longer effective. We are likely stuck under these circumstances, which leads to sufferings. I believe that counseling is a catalyst to facilitate the needed changes & adjustments to get unstuck and to have a meaningful life again.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
