This is my seventh year working as a therapist in Utah where I’ve honed my expertise around issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, faith transition, sexuality and family rejection/conflict.
There's an intuitive sense within us that knows when it’s time to heal; time to fully process and release the old wounds, and thus create the genuine space for new things to grow. Relationships matter deeply – including our relationship with ourselves. I work with clients who have already begun to listen to themselves and know it’s time to take a deeper healing journey inward, make genuine life changes and ultimately increase their capacity for healthy, authentic connection with others. I work collaboratively and compassionately to empower my clients to sift through the difficult pieces that have historically gotten in the way.

Couples often long to feel close but get stuck in their problems. It can seem like there’s no way out of emotional conflicts, sexual difficulties, past mistakes in the relationship, or other issues. I believe in healing that gets to the root – healing that is deep, self-reflective, compassionate, honest, and real. I work with clients and their partners and family members to heal from difficult past experiences, trauma, and current conflicts toward brighter futures, stronger relationships, and a more secure sense of self.

Other things that bring me joy are my family, sports, spirituality, gardening, music, theater, literature, and technology.
I am accepting new clients and offer Online Counseling via Telehealth. I've provided over 10,000 hours of therapy and like Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life." I managed LDS Family Services for 13 years and loved directing the 12-step Addiction Recovery Program in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. I've been recruited by multiple residential treatment centers, a hospital, a skilled nursing facility, and by an IOP program assessing and treating substance abuse and domestic violence.

As a person-centered therapist, I consider each individual, couple, family and their insights and life experiences unique.
It takes great courage to recognize when you need help and even more to ask for it. Even the strongest and most healthy need a trusted mentor, healer, and guide in their life at some point. Do you find yourself asking questions about sex, sexual health, sexual relationships, or intimacy within your relationship? Do you feel you have a place to ask and explore sexual topics and understand your sexual body? Understanding this part of yourself is an important part of your ability to relate and interact with yourself AND to connect, relate, and interact with others throughout your life. Here is a space for you.

We are living in a crazy time. The uncertainty and intensity of the last several years are putting our mental health to the test. I work with clients who are going through interpersonal struggles (strained family dynamics, sex issues, divorce/break-ups, and navigating non-monogamy), faith transitions, depression, anxiety, and/or trauma. I love helping clients explore their gender and sexual identities, career possibilities, and relationship to substances/addiction. I work with adult individuals, couples, families, polycules, and groups.

As a trauma specialist, I am level 1 certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and level 1 trained with Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) to address the complex fear and shame responses that can occur as a result of overt traumas and childhood attachment disruptions.
My 10 years as a therapist have exposed me to a variety of challenges from deescalating unsafe situations to mediating complex relationship barriers. In my experience trauma can often be found at the core of depression, anxiety, family/spouse conflict, disordered eating, sexual confusion and addiction. All of these challenges can create a sense of feeling stuck, unfulfilled and alone. In some cases, these struggles can be intimidating to address without help. My belief is that therapy acts as a safe place for you to address those struggles in an empowering way; one that gives a sense of purpose, and leaves you feeling connected.

I primarily use emotionally focused therapy, although I also use principles from narrative, internal family systems, sex therapy, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy models.
I believe in healing that gets to the root - the best healing happens when therapy involves compassionate, deep self-reflection and honest, real conversations in a safe environment. I work with clients and their partners and family members to heal from difficult past experiences and current conflicts toward brighter futures, stronger relationships, and a more secure sense of self.

Counseling has always been that one unique ability of mine that I felt was a higher calling. The encouragement I get from watching clients meet major milestones continues to increase my passion as a therapist. I am a firm believer that there is no shame in asking for help. Regardless of how major or minor your struggle may be, having someone to talk to makes a massive difference. As a therapist, I strive to provide a nonjudgmental environment that allows clients to feel safe and secure. I work with anxiety, depression, loss, and trauma, in addition to youth, couples, LGBTQ+, and individuals.

The challenges we face as individuals, as a community, and as a society can have a profound impact on the way we view the world, ourselves and others. Exposure to multiple adverse life experiences over time (experienced directly or in anticipation of adverse experiences) can progressively increase symptoms of anxiety, depression, clinical, and sub-clinical PTSD and even impact the state and health of our bodies. Adverse life experiences are often stored in the body and can be coded to our DNA. Somatic forms of therapy such as EMDR and Brainspotting help to adjust this lens by integrating and fully reprocessing adverse experiences.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
