My systemic training has helped me become more intentional in my own relationships and family.
Therapy is a transformative experience for both the therapist and the client. I have transformed as I strive to embody compassion, empathy, and kindness working alongside clients who suffer through challenges of addiction, trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD, relationship discord, betrayal, grief, and loss. I aim to provide a safe space for clients to explore their struggles and pain. I myself am no stranger to pain, health challenges, heartache, loneliness, grief, and loss. As a therapist, I have been privileged to help individuals, relationships, and families discover how they can show up more meaningfully in the world.

You might be here because you’re tired and you feel powerless. Your circumstances seem out of your control; maybe a partner has made choices that hurt you, a family member was diagnosed with a terminal illness, a child is exercising their new found agency. Whatever that circumstance is for you, you may experience helplessness, anxiety, fear, sadness, overwhelm, and other feelings that are causing you distress. I'm here to work with you. I work with teens, adults, couples and families.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably experiencing a period of sadness, trial, loss, hopelessness, frustration, anger, relational struggles, feeling lost, or failure just to name a few. During these moments of turmoil, when we feel most vulnerable and isolated, asking for help may seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. I am particularly passionate about helping people who are or have encountered trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, faith transformations, and the intersection of sexual orientation and religious experiences.

I believe there is a purpose in everything that we do and in everything that happens to us. “As soon as we are able to find meaning in suffering, then the suffering is over.” A big part of my approach is helping you find peace in the midst of the suffering. A lot of the time we cannot change our surroundings or the world around us but we can find peace in ourselves and change within. Healing is a personal journey that can be extremely painful. My main focus is walking with you as you feel what you need to feel and to find meaning to help you move forward.

Navigating life isn't as easy as it looks sometimes. Depression, anxiety, and abuse are more common than people think. Family issues, partner issues, sudden behavioral changes, unexpected life adjustments, they all can have an impact on how we perceive life. Our perception often becomes our reality and sometimes our reality feels stuck. Rewriting your story can be a release from the past as much as writing a new chapter in life can be the change people seek. You have strengths to use against your limitations and parts of yourself that need attending.

Over the years, I have been involved in various treatment environments, but always working to improve family and couple relationships.
What is the sense of belonging that many people claim to have, and others have no idea how to acquire? Have ever felt the need to be part of some group or be someone else? I first developed an interest in becoming a therapist when I worked in a drug abuse residential as an aid assistant. As part of my responsibility, I engaged the residents in conversation in the hope of encouraging them to become more involved in their treatment and develop a sense of self. With this experience, I realized that I was able to be empathetic and felt good about minimal accomplishments experienced by residents.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
