Becoming a parent often brings up a wide range of emotions. Sometimes it is the long awaited reward after struggling with infertility, or bearing the grief of miscarriage and loss. Sometimes it is the excitement of adding to a growing family. Sometimes it is the fear of reliving physical, emotional, or mental pain and hardship. Sometimes it is grappling with the societal and cultural expectations of parenting. The experiences that arise for parents during conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting deserve a space for specialized care and attention. This specialized care is what I offer in support of your goals.

If you've tried traditional talk therapy and are looking for something different, please reach out, and lets connect to find out if I'd be a good fit for you, your child, or your family.
I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment, free of judgment for my clients as they work towards self-understanding and personal empowerment. We will collaborate together to understand the dynamics of their current struggles, compassionately unravel the dynamics of their past, and examine how it has impacted their overall wellness. I am trauma-informed, and have an integrative approach to counseling - which simply means I tailor sessions to fit your unique personality and most effectively meet your most pressing needs.

My experience includes couples' work, teen/family therapy and substance abuse in the family.
Do you find yourself in the middle of what seems like an unsolvable conflict? Sometimes, we all need a road map to find our way back home to ourselves and each other. Solid connections with those you love are possible. Let me help you reconnect, repair from deep wounds and find peace. Marriage counseling, couple counseling and family therapy are areas I enjoy, along with helping navigate addiction and its effects on loved ones.

You’ve worked so hard to create a career, or family, or life you "should" love but now you don’t know how to enjoy it.
Do the people around you rely on you because you’re an “over-achiever” or the one who always has it all together? You're putting on a smile while you say “yes” to one more thing, but inwardly you're panicking about how overwhelmed you feel. Or maybe you feel like you’re never perfect enough, no matter how hard you’re trying. Do you wear your constant busyness like a badge of honor because “everyone is just busy, right?” and to ask to slow down might seem like you're just lazy? I bet you look calm and collected on the outside, but do your racing thoughts keep you constantly on edge? If you're nodding your head right now, I get it.

As a licensed professional counselor and a licensed marriage and family therapist for over 30 years, I have worked primarily with men and their spouses.
Life can be more challenging than you expect, and sometimes you need help in moving forward. In those times, you need someone who understands you and can coach you in finding a healthy way to manage what life throws at you. A good therapist is like a fellow traveler who is able to help you make sense of life and relationships. In many life situations, a supportive counselor who understands how challenging life is can be a helpful part of your journey.

I provide individual, couple, and family counseling.
I believe a good counselor works their way out of a job...one client at a time. We all get "stuck" in life from time to time. My goal is to provide you with knowledge, tools, guidance, and support so that you can get "unstuck" and move on. Therapy is not magic...but it works. If you are struggling with emotional, behavioral, or relational problems I would like the opportunity to visit with you to see if I can help.

My job is to help clients learn more effective methods of dealing with these stressors, assist clients to see the pattern that has been created, and guide them in a different direction. I see clients from age 12-elderly. I take most insurance. Call for an appointment today at (903) 939-2287.

I use a common-sense approach to work alongside you and your family to find practical solutions to life's challenges.
You're tired, frustrated and just want peace at home! What works for one of your children doesn't work for the other and that's frustrating. Wish your teen girl came with an instruction manual? Your teen seems lonely, withdrawn, struggling with social issues, or can't control their anger and you feel hopeless because you don't know what to do to help. As parents we want our children to be healthy and happy yet sometimes we can't fix the situation for them and that makes us feel a failure as a parent.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and now Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.
We all need someone to hear our story, to respect our tears, and to help us be courageous as we walk the path toward healing. I stay present through your pain, hurt, and discovery. Trauma, doubt, and fear can easily consume our thoughts, and provoke emotional distress and a sense of loss. Beginning the processing step can feel scary, but it certainly doesn't have to be a journey you take alone. I am here, ready to hear your story and help you navigate these feelings and reconnect you with your authentic self. Let me know how I can help.

Today our complicated and fast-paced lives are full of pressures that challenge us in countless ways. "How can I find happiness in my marriage?", "How do I cope with...?", and "Why do I feel so out of control?" are some of the questions I hear from clients seeking to understand their life journey and questioning what they can do to reach their true potential - individually, as a couple, or as a family. Soul searching is rarely an easy path to take, yet wanting to achieve an emotionally healthy life is usually the motivator which begins the process.

Working from an attachment view point, I strive to provide nurturing and consistent care. I look at how the functioning of family system and caregivers shapes thought patterns, self-images, and behaviors. Through DBT, I explore how behaviors are shaped through attachments to caregivers as well as current relationships.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
