Therapy is a process. I feel privileged to join my clients in working towards improving their lives. I have worked in private practice since 2006, providing family/couple, individual, and group therapy services. I work with clients of diverse ethnicities, ages, and genders. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and solution-focused, family therapy-based, culturally sensitive, and client-centered.

I have seen individuauls, couples, families, children and teens for over thirty-five years with many personal and relational issues. A former youth minister and present college instructor, I have respect the issues for which young people wrestle. Married for 20+ years and raised two terrific kids, I am aware of parenting problems and joys. My divorce, single-parenting experience and mid-life crises has helped me see into what others suffer. My personal healing, self-discovery and spiritual maturity serve as a resource for helping fellow strugglers. I enjoy helping people of all ages and diversities work through dilemmas and unfold their unique path.

At our first session, we will focus on your concerns, what brought you into therapy, and any other contributing factors. I will ask questions to clarify my understanding of your concerns, and to get you to begin thinking differently about your situation. We'll discuss your goals and expectations, and how you will know when things are better. My intent will be to help you get "unstuck" from psychological problems, and become the best problem-solver you can be. While collectively working to restore your self-respect, self-worth, and self-mastery.

On the road of life there are twists and turns, hills and valleys, and at times you may feel lost and all alone, or don't know which way to go. Help is only a telephone call or e-mail away. I use solution-focused brief and cognitive behavior therapies in therapeutic collaboration with adolescents, individual adults and couples to facilitate and promote change in their lives. In addition, I offer parenting, pre-marital and anger management sessions. Evening and weekend appointments are available.

As a native of Vietnam, who came to the U.S. in my early teens, I am fluent in English and Vietnamese. This multi-cultural/multi-lingual background helps me understand, accept, and work effectively with clients of all ethnics and genders, especially those with acculturation and generation gap issues. I have over 15 years of professional experience and been in private practice since 1998 as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT.) I am a native of Taiwan, came to States as adolescent, with the ability to conduct therapy fluently in the Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese, and English. I have been a full-time employee, self-employed, graduate student and a stayed-home-mom, mother of 2, chose a career change from B.S. in Engineering to M.M. in Business and to M.Ed. in Counseling/Behavioral Science. I am empathetic with life/work balance issues, such as stress/time management, and career transition/satisfaction. I have the core goal of empowering individuals, couples and families to make healthy, positive changes in their professional and personal lives.

I also have considerable experience utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a method that is both quick and effective for relationship/family/parenting problems, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, guilt, insomnia, medical impairments, work stress, anger/resentment, smoking addiction, and many other difficult issues.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have over 15 years of experience working with with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. I have a special interest in working with individuals who have a history of trauma. I take an individualized, holistic approach with each of my clients, using a mind-body-spirit approach along with the creative arts, symbolism and narrative techniques to encourage the expression of feelings. I am especially skilled at working with children and adolescents who have been impacted by divorce, abuse or neglect, adoption or spent time in the foster care system.

I have successfully taught children as early as those in Program Head Start, before becoming a Texas Teacher & School Counselor, and ultimately a LPC-Supervisor . As a child advocate who tries to understand the needs of the child in hopes of helping with mental or emotional turmoil. One may say or think that I specialize in treating children? This would be false, because I can't recall a situation where I could help the child without helping the parents, and even the whole family. Family history and dynamics plays a "Huge" role in your child's development and behaviors.

I have over 20 years of experience working with adults, adolescents and their families who are dealing with a variety of behavioral health, alcohol and drug abuse issues. My experience has shown me that by changing unhealthy patterns, expressing fears and concerns and taking gentle risks, it is possible to live a satisfying life regardless of what or how long your struggle. I use a combination of techniques depending on issues presented and we will work together on both short and long term goals.
