I want to help you claim your best life! Helping people change has been my life's work for over 20 years. I utilize the best practices that help my clients live the life they want....not to avoid the struggle but to embrace it and triumph. While I have studied various forms of therapy..CBT, DBT, Family systems, etc., what I find most fascinating is the ongoing triumph of the human spirit over adversity. I would love to help you utilize the resources you have to successfully meet your life's challenges. "How can I be Helpful?"

I have spent the last six years in the counseling field focused on supporting adolescents and young adults struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, and family issues.
It’s hard to pin down what’s wrong exactly, but something is wrong. Life is starting to feel out of control, and you don’t know how to get back on track. Maybe you’re a frustrated parent, and you’re worried about the direction your child’s life is taking. This probably isn’t your first time considering therapy, but you’re hoping something changes this time. Let’s make that change together.

I have completed advanced certification in Attachment Based Family Therapy, an empirically supported family therapy model in the treatment of adolescent depression, suicidality and a number of other challenges.
I work against the position that views human challenges through a narrow lens bound by diagnosis and pathology. In family therapy, I work with adolescents and their caregivers who are impacted by protracted conflict and disconnection. I work with couples who are caught in patterns of conflict, avoidance, and misunderstanding. Individual therapy places emphasis on the security and safety of the therapeutic relationship in order to create opportunities for change.

My therapy utilizes elements of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT).
Waiting lists are long, situations are urgent, and help can be hard to find. Compassionate and successful therapeautic care for you or your struggling teen is available through the counseling services I offer. If you or someone you know is struggling with issues like depression, anxiety, academic struggles, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, self injury, sexual orientation, gender identity, or suicidal ideation reach out to set up an appointment or brief introductory virtual meeting. Weekend and evening appointment times are available. I know first hand how scary it can be to watch an adolescent you love struggle and suffer.

In working with clients my hope has always been to work with people who are asking for help. Working with people who struggle with mood disorders, relationship struggles, and those who simply want to get to know themselves better. Whether that is addressing self-esteem, purpose, addiction, helping others gain confidence or direction, my goal has always been to give people a better sense of who they are.

Are you in emotional pain and ready for a change? Are anxiety, depression, self-defeating behavior or relationship issues standing between you and your happiness or personal goals? My aim is to help you begin healing as quickly as possible, even when the issues are long-standing. As a therapist, I am actively engaged in the process and collaborate to help you remove barriers and learn to use your innate capacities for growth. Together, we will explore the present and seek out transformational processes, rather than focus on the past or simply relive old wounds as a more traditional approach might.

In practice for over 15 years, I work with a wide range of people who may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, and stress. In particular, many people come into my office because they have found an aspect of their life is not rewarding, whether this be handling life's pressures, relationships with a spouse/children, or how one thinks about one's self. It is always my objective to work with people collaboratively in order to develop goals that guide the psychotherapy.

I believe that the ability to calm down and solve problems are two of the most crucial skills for success in life! Over the past thirty plus years I have had the honor of having many people from many different backgrounds share their stories of life's victories, challenges, and pain with me. Most individuals have both obvious and hidden strengths that can be called up to help them to move past obstacles. I feel skilled about being able to create the emotional safety for people to truly discover and tap in to their own resources. As clients then learn and become empowered with strong, coping skills, exciting postive changes happen!

The primary focus of my work is with adults, adolescents, and their families as they work to navigate difficult stages in their lives. Much of my professional work is with adolescents and their families. In my work with teens, I employ a mix of humor, authenticity, and curiosity about their struggles. From a stance of openness and compassion, I work to help teens explore their individual difficulties, confront potentially self sabotaging patterns, and develop coping strategies that are unique to their needs. I have helped many teens move beyond their pain and find healthier, freer, more fulfilling lives.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
