Hello you! You’re so brave to be seeking out support. What a great gift you’re giving yourself! I know it can be so hard sometimes to figure out how and why you respond to situations the way you do. Or maybe you know why, and you don’t know how to respond differently. Maybe emotions feel scary, and you don’t know how to express them. Maybe you struggle with communicating your needs or boundaries to your family, partner or self. Maybe anxiety or depression or trauma responses are so familiar it feels impossible to exist in a world without them.

I have experience in helping clients with depression, trauma (from various sources), abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual), parenting issues, self-esteem, career difficulties, and relationship concerns (family, friends, or romantic).
I have been a licensed therapist in Oklahoma for 6 years and primarily worked in the community counseling setting. Proceeding my work within a large agency setting I gained more experience working with BetterHelp. Currently, I am working to grow my own practice. Clients who are wanting to be challenged with a compassionate touch are often a good fit with me. During our sessions we may dig deep to find the events in life that are still affecting you negatively. However, we will also be working on increasing healthy behaviors, thoughts, and emotions (e.g. communication/boundaries, coping skills, adaptive positive thinking).

I’m sure I am not the only one discovering ways the trauma and upheaval of the past few years has changed our lives dramatically. Maybe you are feeling stuck or trapped in relationship dynamics that feel unhealthy or stagnant. Trying to preserve or navigate connections with family who claim to love you with their words while their actions have a different impact? What even ARE boundaries, you may be asking yourself, and how do I even set them? Even if you’re just struggling to get out of bed to go with work when you keep waking up with anxiety or depression sitting on your chest, relief may be closer than you think.

My work includes individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Family Systems.
My experience as a Counselor, and prior to that, as a high school teacher, taught me that we all make mistakes and harbor emotional wounds at one time or another. I have been in my own recovery for Co-Dependency for over 23 years and I am committed to helping individuals and families affected by addiction. I am also a Cancer Survivor. I am devoted to easing the painful experience of others and very importantly, their caregivers, on this and similar journeys.

If you are an adolescent and/or young adult woman who struggles with eating disorders/disordered eating, poor body image, or a poor relationship with your body and/or food, you have found the right place to receive supportive healing. As you may know, it is never about our food or our body, but something much bigger. It takes a safe and compassionate space for you to be vulnerable and share about your past experiences that have lead to your current situation, which is my goal as a therapist, to provide you that space. I view the therapeutic and client relationship as a partnership where we can work together to accomplish your goals.

My counseling philosophy is grounded in trauma-informed practices, meaning I value collaboration, empowerment, and emotional and physical safety above all else. In time, clients will gain a richer understanding of themselves while working towards self-determined goals. I am especially attuned to those experiencing LGBT issues, trauma, and depression, as well as various non-monogamous relationships and organizing for social justice. As a social worker and through lived experience, I am highly aware of the daily social, institutional, and communal injustices that impact different historically oppressed people.

Life is hard. Feelings are hard, and sometimes we don't understand where they are coming from or why, we might just be reacting. We may feel angry, hurt, sad, depressed, disappointed, anxious, or a mixture of these feelings. We might feel stuck in a loop, and feeling like we can't get out. Sometimes we may need some help sorting it all out, and to make sense of it all. My work with children and adults involves helping the client become aware of why we have feelings and what is the best way to express them. Feelings are okay! I use an eclectic approach to help clients begin to piece it all together.

I am currently taking new clients and would love to meet with you! I believe that therapy is a professional relationship and a personal relationship. Finding the right therapist is important for your growth! Therapy is hard and I am here to help support you on your journey - whatever that looks like. Some days it can be laughing, other days could be crying, yelling, or using the occasional cuss word to release our emotions. I work with attachment-based issues, complex trauma, chronic pain/illness, and women's issues.

No one comes to a therapist because they need a lecture. You're here because you need a partner on your personal journey to healing. Good therapy is an invitation into a dialogue, not a monologue where someone "thera-splains" yourself to you. It's my passion to help my clients with self-esteem, depression, anxiety, parenting and learning to find enjoyment in daily life. I use trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to support my clients and am LGBTQ affirming. My areas of expertise include life transitions, depression/anxiety and positive parenting coaching (including how to support your LGBTQ child).

Now Accepting New Clients! Life can be stressful, and even oftentimes overwhelming. Stressors and trauma can impact our lives in many ways, negatively contributing to our physical and emotional health. I believe the mind has the innate capacity to heal. Therapy can provide the key to unlocking our own power to make positive changes, improving how we respond to life's challenges. The process of change and emotional growth is one that starts with the initial step of reaching out. Therapy can provide a safe, confidential, judgement free environment to explore how to manage stress and live life fully.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
