Also, I'm new to OK so chances are good that I won't have connections to your friends/family even in a small town.
Life is hard - no one was meant to have to figure it out on their own including YOU. Maybe you have hard stuff from the past to deal with, maybe you're caught up thinking about the future, maybe you're just trying to manage with parenting and adulting, or maybe your relationships aren't what you wish they were. Wherever you are in life, whatever you're dealing with, I'll meet you where you are and walk along side you. Together we can find your path to a more hopeful future and uncover some joy along the way. That's what we all really want anyhow isn't it - to find our joy.

My belief is that people already have the answers that they need, but they might need help finding those answers within themselves. My job is not to tell you what to do, rather it is to empower you to make better choices about your life. I'm not going to drive for you- I'm going to help you find your keys.

I seek to create a nurturing, compassionate environment where clients feel safe and supported as they negotiate the difficulties of life. I consider it an honor that people trust me with these painful aspects of their lives. It's a privilege to travel this portion of the road of life with an individual or couple. Whether folks need help to sort out a difficult decision, a work situation, depression, anxiety, or marital difficulties, my goal is to honor and respect each individual's struggle. My belief, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." - Plato

We all experience challenges and opportunities to grow and emerge stronger. I believe most humans instinctively move toward higher ground. Sometimes we need someone to walk alongside us who can help keep hope kindled and discover new, less painful, costly routes on the climb. I've had the privilege to journey with clients for over 25 years. My passion is working with those who've been marginalized or who experience themselves on the edges of community. I love witnessing clients do hard things, sit in difficult places, and face what scares them most.

In my way of working with you, I lay my personal issues aside for our time together and give myself plenty of internal space to resonate with you on a gut level. As I hear your story in words I also hear it in feelings. A good therapist puts these two narratives together, the spoken one and the emotional one, in getting to an accurate understanding of you. When I merge this understanding with my training in psychology, which is extensive, I'm able to reflect purposefully with you about what might be wrong; about "how" you're hurting.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
