If you're looking for services for you, your relationship, your family, or your loved one, it's a big step. Finding the right fit doesn't always happen right away, but it's vital to feel a sense of safety with your therapist to help you to move forward through the discomfort that often comes with therapy and change. I use Adventure Therapy to engage the whole person, because it's empowering, it's fun, and it works.

Hope starts here. Are you feeling sad or stressed? Do you experience mood swings but don't really know why? Maybe you've been withdrawing from family, friends, or activities that used to breathe light into your life. If you have been feeling depressed, have found yourself more angry or hostile than normal, or suffer from low energy or problems sleeping, you may have an untreated mental health issue. Mental health impacts your way of thinking, relating to others, and overall quality of life. Many issues have been identified and defined including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), etc. You don't have to suffer anymore.

I start where you are. I firmly believe that life rarely unfolds in a straight line, and that we can all find our way— no matter how lost or hurt we might feel. Whether you are struggling with illness, death of a loved one, a learning problem, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, difficult family dynamics, prolonged poverty, traumatic events, or other emotional, relationship or socio-economic factors, healing can occur.

I primarily utilize an Internal Family Systems model coupled with somatic experiencing to support clients who have experienced trauma or struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, or difficult relationship patterns.
Does it ever feel like you have not been given the privilege to meet, and know, the best version of yourself? I hope to be your partner in self-exploration and empowerment by identifying, challenging, and shifting some of the cycles that are no longer working for you. I work to create a supportive environment that promotes your healing process through continued curiosity. A poem by Gabi Abrão notes, “As long as “why” exists, everything in this life is suspended in a sacred open-endedness.” You have the ability to know yourself fully and create a life that you love by directly engaging with all of the different parts of yourself.

When we have a safe space to talk about our feelings, they can become less overwhelming and more manageable. As a therapist, I use a strengths-based and collaborative approach to partner with my clients and their caregivers to work through stressors, express emotions, and develop coping skills. With years of experience in community mental health and healthcare, I have the most extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults who have experienced anger, anxiety, depression and trauma.

The majority of us experience difficulties in our lives, but the experiences themselves can be very personal and unique. The key principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (the impact that our feelings, thoughts, and actions have on each other) can be life changing when embraced. CBT teaches us to be better stewards of ourselves and allows us to take charge of feeling better and maintaining our improvements after we've achieved them with our changed perspective and skill set. I’m an approachable professional who can help. I encourage you to call, text, or email me to see if we may be a good fit for your change process.

When we are out of balance in mind, body, or spirit, the overall effect is that we don’t feel well. We become plagued by knowing something is wrong, but perhaps do not know exactly what that is, how we got there, or how to begin changing it. As the imbalance worsens, so does our discomfort, and we begin to suffer the effects of emotional dis-ease and physical disease. An imbalance commonly presents itself (for example) as anxiety or depression. When a struggle wages in the mind, its effects are often felt throughout the body in the form of fatigue, distractability, digestive problems, muscle tension, chronic pain, and more.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
