Hi there and welcome to Mind Trek Counseling! My name is Norman Cerny. I am a counselor who works with clients of all ages and a variety of issues. My experience and focus have been in trauma-focused care, LGBTQ issues, self-harm, addiction, and family and relationship conflicts. I have a focus on transitional youth meaning teens and young adults but have and will work with people of all ages. I believe we are our best when we can live as our true authentic self in our everyday life. For the past 20 years, I have worked with a variety of individuals and families including children and adults in various life transitions. Part of my foundation in working with these populations is creating a safe and trusting relationship to ensure healing and growth by utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, attachment, complex developmental trauma, executive functioning disorders, and mood disorders. I am trained as a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner.

Trauma is powerful. When individuals experience trauma it is both a physical and psychological experience. It can shake us to our core and can change the way we perceive ourselves and our world. We may no longer feel that we can trust in others. Or we may feel that we are alone and we will never recover. We can experience intense emotions such as feelings of shame, guilt, hopelessness, worthlessness, anxiety, depression, anger and despair. Although, trauma is powerful and can affect us this does not mean we are lost. There are people who want to help. We are mental health professionals and it is our goal to heal those in need.

I am a Licensed Social Worker who specializes in working with children, teens, and young adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, conduct/defiant behaviors, and interpersonal conflicts. I also have extensive experience working with families, groups, and neurodivergent populations such as autistic people and individuals with ADHD.

My previous clinical experience includes working within a university counseling center and with a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Intensive Outpatient Group. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in 2018 from Kent State University, my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a certificate in Chemical Dependency from Cleveland State University in 2022.
