Establishing yourself, and your identity, is a lifelong process. You are not alone when you face questions including: Who am I? What is my purpose? Who do I want in my life? What do I stand for? Why am I here? When we consider these questions, along with countless others branching from these, you might find yourself overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or frustrated. Attempting to navigate this process, you may face societal expectations, dysfunctional family dynamics, economic challenges or other stressors operating against you. While desire to be stable, authentic, and true to self is shared, your story will always be unique.

Life can be overwhelming at times, causing our nervous systems to shut down and making us lose touch with the beauty of life. As someone who understands the impact of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders in children and adults, I use holistic mechanisms such as polyvagal and cognitive behavioral therapy to empower individuals, help them regain control of their lives, address trauma, and overcome adversity. My treatment approach is person-centered and interventions are tailored to best fit you or your child. I would be honored to assist you or your loved one throughout the healing process.

I get it. Life can be challenging with experiences that leave us feeling overwhelmed and filled with self-doubt. When someone is in this place where life feels hard, they need non-judgmental compassion, care, and consideration of their own needs. I feel therapy is a tool we can use to elevate our growth, empower ourselves, and a support to lean on. As a therapist with over a decade of experience, I specialize in anxiety and depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, relational trauma, and life transitions, specifically maternal mental health.

Relationships can be one of the biggest blessings and also one of the biggest stresses in your life. It's amazing how quickly life can get in the way of our relationships and cause chaos in our lives. We have obligations, responsibilities and demands that we have to keep up with, while putting in work to create a successful relationship. It can be exhausting at times and things can fall apart quickly. Therapy can be helpful for not just the couple or family, but the individual.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist and Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, I believe that therapy is a journey that can provide valuable perspective and facilitate healing. In my sessions, I aim to create a supportive and safe environment where my clients can work to reclaim their lives from fear, pain, and hopelessness. By exploring the systems, families, and relationships that shape their experiences, my clients can gain insight into their inner selves and learn how to cope with past traumas and current stressors. Together, we can work towards moving forward rather than remaining stuck.

You've been thinking about starting therapy for a while now, but there is always a reason not to make the call or send the email to set it up. You’re not sleeping well. Your job or friends or family responsibilities stress you out. Your relationships are unfulfilling. Your sex life is flat (or nonexistent). You don’t feel good about yourself. Heck, you don’t even remember when the last time you felt good, period! But you keep saying, “I don’t have the time.” “It’s not really that bad.” “I’m worried a therapist will just tell me that I’m crazy.” “I’ll see if I feel better next week.” I am telling you: It doesn't have to be this way.

Do you feel like you are constantly triggered by "ordinary life"? Panic attacks? Insomnia? Destructive behaviors? Mood swings? Hypervigilance or mistrust? Loss of memory? Feelings of worthlessness or shame? Loss of sense of self? Feeling numb or detaching from relationships? Do you wish you could "change the channel" in your mind? Maybe you have been in a holding pattern of "bad or abusive" relationships and are seeking ways to recognize red flags and break patterns of codependency.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
