Seeking therapy for your child can be extremely stressful. I believe that when a child faces difficult times, it's crucial that they're supported and taught skills in order to help benefit their future. Managing the stressors of life and the behaviors our thoughts create can be extremely difficult.

Highly sensitive hearts, introverts, deep feelers, the socially anxious, and those with emotionally intense personalities are welcome here. You feel ALL the feels. All the time. Sometimes your emotions seem so powerful that you feel out of control or that it is unbearable. You form strong attachments to people, pets, places, and things but struggle with stability and security in your relationships. You are fed up with being told that you are 'too emotional', 'too needy', 'too clingy', or 'too sensitive'. Maybe you use alcohol, drugs, food, or suicidal thoughts to cope with your overwhelming emotions.

I believe in the ultimate potential and wellness of each individual, couple or family that steps into my office.
Have you reviewed multiple write ups on Psychology Today looking for the right therapist? Do you feel confused because there are so many individuals listed that are willing and ready to help? The right "fit" is so important to me and I hope that you might consider my holistic and uplifting approach to treatment. I am so honored and humbled to help people on their path to healing and I strive to keep therapy relevant and comfortable. Most clients tell me, "You are not like any therapist that I have ever met before!". I always take this as a compliment.

Infertility and depression can negatively impact our relationships with friends and family.
The trauma of infertility is often unimaginable, unpredictable, and unfair. It is full of loss, sacrifice and a desperate desire for an outcome you fear may never come. The anxiety can be overwhelming. Maybe you are feeling exhausted and alone, terrified of not ever having the life you want. Perhaps you are struggling with feelings of guilt, anger or emptiness and a deep longing for a change in your circumstances. Depression is usually not far behind on this journey and compounds an already shattered worldview.

While a significant portion of my practice is focused on working with individual adults in psychotherapy, I have specialty training in child, adolescent and family psychology and work with many younger patients as well.
As a psychologist in private practice, I have the opportunity to work with people in order to optimize their emotional well-being. I work collaboratively with individuals to assist their identifying factors which have caused distress. Together we work to discover the obstacles to feeling better. We consider patterns that have developed over time to understand their adaptive benefits and maladaptive consequences. This approach provides opportunities to evaluate and to chart better ways to respond to life's challenges. I utilize a psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approach with an emphasis on increasing awareness of one's reactions and experiences.

Whether I am working with an individual, a family, or couple, the process always focuses on looking beyond the surface.
Engaging in therapy is a vulnerable and sometimes scary process. I specialize in working with couples in a committed relationship. Working on relationships I often find the thing that brings couples together initially, gets lost after the "honeymoon" period is over. It is easy to get complacent with all of life's stressors. Being a strength-based therapist, I believe that anything is possible if both people are willing to work. And to be honest, therapy is work! I view my clients as the experts in their life and work together with them to create positive change.

I offer individual, relationship, family, and group counseling and integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques based on the particular needs of each client, couple, or family.
I believe psychotherapy can be transformative. Over and over again, I have been deeply impressed by people's capacity for personal growth and change. And, I have been moved by the courage and strength people have shown by their entering therapy in the first place, and by the trust they have placed in me and in the work we do together. I strive to create an atmosphere of trust, respect, and compassion that allows people to become more self-aware, to find healing, and to living a more fulfilling life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
