To your friends and family, you may appear fine. Inside, you feel anything but. Confusion, uncertainty, loneliness;things once simple now seem hard, even impossible. You find you're repeating the same mistakes over and again, don't enjoy the activities you once did, or struggle just to face the day. You want to feel better. Having the courage to end your anguish, resolve difficult personal problems, and regain your emotional grounding can be a difficult task. But it's a task you don't have to tackle alone. Making the first call is usually the hardest. I make it easy. Call me :)

Getting relief from emotional pain helps to improve relationships and can open the door for more gratifying family bonding experiences.
Experiencing difficulty coping with a major life transition? Want help getting back to normal? Life changing events can be difficult to process emotionally. Being connected to the present moment in a relaxed body can help us better understand and appreciate our true selves. Too often we are stuck in the mistakes/misfortunes of our past or the uncertainties of our future. Change is difficult and at times uncomfortable, yet it is necessary in order to grow and thrive. Being able to be in the moment and address difficult situations as they are and without judgment is vital to making change easier to manage.

I work with adults, individuals and couples, and specialize in working with older adults, family caregivers, and people facing serious medical problems.
Our lives are full of challenging and stressful circumstances, both in the world we live and within ourselves. The way we react, respond and relate to our inner and outer experiences determines how we feel and how we see ourselves. Psychotherapy is about getting support, developing understanding and insight into the nature of our personal and relational problems, and learning tools and skills to help us navigate the many challenges that we face in our lives. With a kind and accepting presence, I offer a supportive and compassionate approach where we work collaboratively toward problem solving, insight, and personal growth.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
