As a therapist with more than 25 years of clinical experience, I have worked on issues related to family and social relationships, parenting, loss and grief, long-term and life-threatening illnesses.
Life can sometimes be overwhelming, full of surprises, and stressful. We may wonder how to face these struggles, experiences of sadness or anxiety, or difficulties in relationships. Often we can find ourselves feeling this way after changes in our family, the loss of a job or retirement, or the death of a loved one. There are times when we all need extra support to make it through the challenges we are facing. Therapy can help empower us to recognize inner strengths, develop effective coping skills, and enable personal growth.

If you struggle with anxiety, depression (sad most of the time) and/or have family/relationship problems, addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, struggle with parenting issues and are ready to receive the help and support to change the direction of your life, my goal is to help you clear the way to solutions.
As a stroke survivor, I understand the unique challenges that come with healing. What I know to be true is that consistency with patience will lead to resilience. I work with sensitivity and a focus on helping clients develop skills and strengths needed to reclaim their lives. Challenges are difficult. We all have them. Therapy can be a highly effective tool to assist in life's challenges and offer alternative strategies towards a solution. The time is now. Your time is now. I would like to help you create a supportive environment for those who struggle with ongoing patterns of self-defeating behaviors.

I incorporate techniques from NeuroLinguistic Programming, CBT & Psychodrama into a family systems framework.
I bring both understanding and caring to the therapeutic relationship. I’ve been a therapist and supervisor for over 25 years and have specialties in working with people who struggle with depression, learning differences and attentional difficulties that result in performance anxiety. I help with ADD self-management. I am also a Lyme Literate counselor and as such work with folks with chronic complex illness. In the work that I do, I have found it key to highlight and appreciate differences in perception so we can explore how they might lead to communication barriers. Celebrating diversity and uniqueness is important to healing.

Many years of experience with marriage, family and individual therapy enables me to help patients achieve success.
For over 25 years I have been privileged to become closely involved with patients and their challenges. I value my relationship with each patient and couple, and provide a safe, warm environment. My goal is to bring about positive change by alleviating problems and providing relief from symptoms. Extensive training and experience combined with warmth and individualized attention are the ingredients which enable me to help my patients successfully achieve their goals. Since every individual and situation is different, I match the treatment to the patient, and not the patient to the treatment.

This has allowed me to work with families to address learning, behavioral, and mental health disabilities that affect both the children and their family unit.
Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you might find yourself stuck or overwhelmed by life, leaving you feeling anxious and unsettled. Whether you are in the midst of changes in your life or need that extra support to make a necessary transition, therapy can help you find clarity, direction, and support. Working together, we can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and develop strategies to help you move forward.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
