I do this by utilizing a wide variety of therapeutic interventions to accomplish this, including trauma-informed approaches, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), ego-states techniques, and relational approaches.
Hello! I am a doctorate level Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 15 years experience working with people of all ages with a variety of issues and concerns. I named my practice Vantage Point Counseling because a vantage point is a place or position affording a good view of something. My goal is to help you do just that: I want to help you achieve wellness and enhance your ability to cope, overcome barriers or past experiences, and experience the change you're looking for.

I am trained in many trauma focused therapies that facilitate this deeper healing process - EMDR, Internal Family Systems, NARM, Somatic Experiencing-but above all consider myself to be a relational and relatable therapist who prioritizes the relationship with my clients as the primary healing agent.
Are you tired of experiencing the same patterns and want to heal at the root of your symptoms? I specialize in treating trauma, addictions, and self esteem issues - in particularly with women and teenagers. When my clients first come in, their lives are overrun by fear and insecurities. They carry around deep shame about who they are and never feel quite “good enough”. They want to be confident and heal the patterns that are holding them back but do not know where to start.

We all have a story. Your story may have some significant challenges to overcome. Problems with romantic partners, your family, and your own internal struggles can add up day after day until it gets overwhelming. And any trauma or loss you’ve experienced in the past doesn’t help. But your story doesn’t have to be a tale of woe. And you don’t have to change it all by yourself. That's why we’re here. Using a combination of traditional and modern neuroscientific approaches, we help you heal from the past, live more fully in the present, and find the best parts of yourself.

There is value in knowing we are seen, heard, and understood. In addition to treating anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and trauma, I specialize in grief. Many times, we believe we are stuck, or that there is something abnormal about how long it is taking us to feel “better”. I understand that loss can be an isolating experience. Whether dealing with the death of a family member, friend, or beloved pet, or going through divorce, a cancer diagnosis, unexpected job loss, or an empty nest, how we process and adjust to an altered way of living are specific and unique to each person.

I have extensive training in working with individuals with issues concerning: * Marriage and family counseling * Work with blended families * Codependency * Communications * Conflict resolution * Family conflict * Coping skills * Family conflicts * Pre-marital counseling * Addictions.
Everyone seeks love and happiness in their lives, but for many of us, this requires work. Although being intimately attached to another can bring healing and joy, sometimes we begin to question our relationships. For over 38 years, I have been helping couples restore those relationships that have hit a rough patch. It is my goal to help couples find their way back to each other by empowering them with the tools to understand each other and heal themselves and their relationships.

Whether individual male, female, couple or family the goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where maladaptive thoughts, patterns and relationships can be changed.
Each person, male or female, is accepted as a unique individual and accepted for where they are at this point in time. I bring an awareness that an individual's behavior and feelings are multidetermined by many complex factors - family of origin, societal, interpersonal relationships and individual characteristics and experiences. Understanding, change and better adaptation are feasible goals for all individuals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
