Are you ready for life to be different? To be able to see a brighter path, one in which you are more accepting of yourself, healing, learning, and growing towards the life that you envision? Perhaps you are facing a life transition, a difficult phase of parenting, communication concerns in your relationship, or family conflicts. Maybe your child is struggling with emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. A safe, warm, empathetic space for exploring your life challenges, identifying goals specific for you and/or your family, and building upon your strengths can bring you closer to the life you want, the life you deserve.

My specialty is working with children and families to help navigate through everyday stress and provide therapeutic coping skills that repair gaps in the family unit.
Life can knock you down and keep you there if you let it. I have been a social worker for 18 years, working alongside children and families to preserve wholeness and solidity while providing coping skills, intervention, and case management. I believe for every storm in our life, there is a bright rainbow at the end. Sometimes, we need a nonjudgmental person to lend an ear while discussing our past traumas, hurt, and issues we have endured. Therapy should be focusing on the healing of the past and moving forward to become the best version of ourselves, find our purpose and live it to the fullest.

Have you tried to understand your why, the reason why, why it happened; and continue to struggle with making the connection? If you answered yes, we should talk. I specialize in connections between the self, family, children, and partners. In a time where we seem to always be connected, why do we feel so disconnected and alone? In the individual, the family, and couples connection is paramount. Disconnection happens with trauma, adverse experiences, and unhealthy attachments. Let me help you feel connected again.

Life can be challenging at times. Fortunately, you don’t have to struggle alone. It is often helpful to speak with an objective, compassionate, caring therapist who can help you increase your self-awareness and help you to see things from other perspectives. Whether you’re feeling anxious, depressed, or confused, I can help you identify and clarify your thoughts and feelings and process them.

There are times when life can really throw us some nasty curveballs. It's hard some days to even put one foot in front of another. Our joy can quickly vanish and be replaced by fear and sadness. I know that struggle. I was diagnosed with a significant health issue three years ago which led to horrible depression and anxiety . Now, I truly have a better understanding of where my clients are coming from and just how heavy depression and anxiety can be to carry. I also know it's possible to get your joy and peace of mind back. Whatever your struggles are, they can improve and I would be honored to help guide your path.

What thoughts race through your mind as you go through the day? What thoughts have become obstacles? Do those thoughts hold you captive in states of anxiety and depression? Do they make you feel unsafe, insecure, and isolated, even when we are surrounded by others? Do these thoughts make relationships complicated and responsibilities seem impossible? Are your mental and emotional stressors effecting your physical well-being in ways like physical pain, fatigue, sensory intolerance, brain fog, and inability to focus? Exploring your thoughts and feelings can be difficult, but you do not have to walk through this process alone.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
