My main specializations are in reproductive mental health (perinatal, postpartum, loss, and infertility), queer family systems, and adults with ADHD.
I use an integrative, individualized approach with clients because I believe therapy is a journey based on trust, and should be a space that honors clients knowledge and personal needs. Therapy is more than just a place to vent, and I strive to help people create forward movement. My style is warm, candid, and when appropriate, fairly humorous. My own journey as a daughter, partner, and mother to a 15 and 10 year old informs my work deeply. I work hard to create a space where clients feel free of judgment, while still gently challenging people to do things that may be uncomfortable.

Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders are my area of specialty. I offer one-on-one therapy, family therapy, parenting therapy, and a group therapy called Living with Schizophrenia. The social services many clients benefit from (social workers, psychiatrists, etc.) are often difficult to find, and I collaborate with families, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and others to help you figure out what you need and how to get it. I also provide support for the emotional costs of the illness and help clients learn skills to manage their symptoms. Sessions are usually fully covered by insurance.

As your therapist, I am interested in accompanying you on the exploration of your inner world. I believe self-acceptance & self-compassion are key to our liberation, and there are few places you can go that I can't follow. Our work together will include 1. Getting to know the different parts of you, including those parts that most of us tend to reject and/or repress 2. Examining and deconstructing cultural messages you may have received growing up around sexuality, gender, vulnerability, & intimacy 3. Working to reveal the underbelly of shame by allowing it to transform into your greatest strength.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
