We find ourselves traveling down the same roads all the time, same route to work, school, and even family and friends' houses. Sometimes we become so used to the way we are living that change is often difficult to achieve. I believe this is because we are stuck in ways of thinking because we have done it for as long as we can remember. "That's just the way I am." If you are looking to find a new way of doing things because you are unsatisfied or stuck in a rut, I would love to help you navigate change.

Everybody deals with relational challenges, whether it’s communication struggles with a loved one, wounds you experienced years ago or coming out to a family member. Some of these conversations can be especially challenging for people of faith or creed who feel like they are in conflict with their beliefs. Through counseling, you can figure out how to navigate challenging relationships and deal with the relational pain you’ve experienced throughout life.

Depending on your needs, we'll examine how family, gender, and social expectations have influenced your sense of self, relationships, and aspirations.
When life goes differently than anticipated you may be left grieving, feeling disconnected from life, or from yourself. You deserve to have a compassionate space to process and honor your experiences. Together, we'll explore the stories of your life, understanding how past experiences continue to shape your present reality. Our work will include building resiliency, using your voice to live more authentically, and establish boundaries to create more peace in your life. With a relationship built on trust and compassion, you're invited to explore your deepest truths and strengthen your relationship with yourself.

I grew up in a very large family and learned at a young age what mental health issues looked like. I believe in being present in the here and now and allowing my clients the opportunity to fully express their emotions in a safe environment.

I focus on anxiety, depression, crisis, interpersonal challenges, family conflict, stress, postpartum and much more.
Through my experience as a therapist, I have learned that asking stimulating questions in a trusting, safe, non-judgmental space empowers people to process past experiences and understand how their history impacts them today. Over the years I have found there is no “one way” approach to therapy. My approach to therapy is eclectic, supportive and collaborative. My philosophical belief is that therapy is a place where you can reflect on how to best navigate your life. I graduated from Central Michigan University in 2017 with a Masters degree in Professional Counseling after being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.

I love walking alongside an individual and their family while they rediscover their strengths and their paths.
If you want help making your life more manageable or finding a way out of the chaos, you have come to the right place. If you feel like you are struggling to reconcile experiences or find coping skills to manage mental health concerns, relationship issues, and/or addictions, you have also come to the right place. We will work together to identify the source of your discomfort and unmanageability and then identify tools to move forward. Once we have identified the problem, we can work towards a solution. I am very solution focused in my approach and enjoy working with individuals who are ready to make sustainable change.

Facing new and stressful situations is common. Sometimes we are satisfied with our ability to respond. At other times, we may feel stuck, inadequate, or unable to find a purpose for moving forward. Maybe we missed something significant, fell into an old and unwanted pattern, or wish things would go differently in our relationships. Whether looking through a lens of deficit or strength, family influence or individual accomplishment, we can examine our lives, learn more about ourselves, and find ways to move through difficult situations.

I want to help you/your child to overcome those barriers and build the skills that are needed for your family to be happy and healthy again.
I am Clinical Therapist with over 10 years of experience working primarily with children, teens, and young adults. I use various play techniques and engaging activities to learn about the areas of need a child may have and what kinds of behaviors those needs have impacted. I am happy to work with parents who might be needing guidance or feedback regarding their children's behaviors or mental health needs as well. In addition to working with children, I also see some adolescents and young adults struggling with life changes and other mental health needs.

Being a parent in today’s world is exhausting and navigating difficult experiences can add to the exhaustion. Many parents face high expectations placed by the world and themselves. On top of these high expectations, parents have their own challenges such as perinatal/postpartum mental health, women's issues, relationship challenges, intimacy concerns, and family conflict. When receiving counseling from me, you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone and can rest in a safe space to discuss your experiences.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
