I have worked with a broad range of human concerns. I believe that my neutrality and Bowen family systems perspective can be of considerable use for those who are interested in changing themselves in relationship to important others.

I believe in acknowledging how our race, gender, sexuality, family history, and social/cultural education shape who we tell ourselves we “should” be.
I am a licensed clinical social worker and certified perinatal specialist focused on maternal and paternal mental health concerns. I enjoy helping individuals find compassionate, strengths-focused ways of looking at themselves to create the change they want. I am interested in helping parents to-be and parents at all stages create their own versions of realistic parenting in today’s hurried and stressed society. I work with couples seeking relationship therapy that center on perinatal/postnatal or parenting concerns.

My approach is a cognitive-behavioral focus through individual, couples, or family therapy.
Do you feel sad, hopeless, confused, overwhelmed, or angry? Have you tried to work through issues on your own but feel like you are not making progress? Have others expressed their concern for you and your well-being? Do you have difficulty concentrating, excessive worry, or have used ineffective coping strategies in the past? I believe I can help you.

I provide individual and family therapy.
I believe in an individual's desire for self-awareness. I hope to provide a comfortable environment where, as the client, you can explore your choices for the future. When you able to adopt a different view of yourself you gain insight which can make the possibilities endless and the excitement for change contagious. I see individuals who have been working hard and are still struggling to understand why they feel and/or think as they do. I also work with parents who want to do their best for their child(ren) while developing deeper relationships with themselves.

When starting my Private Practice years ago, I felt it was very important to create a therapeutic space where my Clients would feel comfortable, listened to and understood. A place where they could be themselves, speak openly and honestly and gain insight and perspective. My approach has always been genuine and straight forward, with a strong touch of honesty, encouragement and optimism. Relationships, family life and parenting can be so stressful and feel very overwhelming at times. I look forward to talking with you to determine how I can best help and support you and your family.

Do you find yourself giving love, support, and showing up for others, yet in moments when you need it, no one is there? What about having family and friends to talk too, but still feeling alone and/or misunderstood? Have you ever felt or learned through experience that you need to do everything on your own because you simply can't trust or rely on anyone to show up for you in a way that you need them? Have you ever gave so much of yourself, however, still ended up feeling it isn't enough? You aren't enough? Sound familiar? If so, I am here to tell you that you are not alone.

Many of us are fortunate to have friends and family who listen to our problems and concerns. But, sometimes, that may not be enough and we need the help and guidance of a skilled and experienced professional. We also want to be sure that we are getting an objective and unbiased opinion. I am a very active participant in the sessions, giving feedback and making suggestions. Most people come in with specific "here and now" issues they want to resolve. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of several approaches useful in addressing both current issues and those of longer duration.

I am glad you are here and taking this first step towards the goals you have for yourself. I believe that creating a safe, supportive, open environment can allow my clients the opportunity to move toward healing. I incorporate body work and mindfulness as methods for healing for growth. We all have parts of us that keep us stuck in seasons of life and it is my honor to walk with you to process and examine new strategies to decrease negative symptoms and increase wholeness and health. We can develop patterns in our lives, some learned, some given, and pausing to examine them and develop new strategies is vital to growth and change.

I combine the modalities of Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
Working with a good-fit therapist is the most powerful determinant in getting what you need out of your counseling experience. I work with many people who have invested in therapy for years, sometimes decades, but who haven't experienced significant change, in their relationships, their ways of operating, their stress levels, etc... If you're motivated to gain insight into your stuck places, experiment with new ways of thinking, acting, and relating, and experience sustainable growth, I may be a good-fit therapist for you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
