As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I blend a systems approach with a Jungian lens.
Systems of oppression affect all of us. As a therapist, my goal is to provide a safe and affirming space to help you learn to navigate these systems. I am a queer person of color and I work with people of all genders and sexualities. The larger systems we interact with impact our daily life and how we relate to others in relationship. If you struggle with the relationships in your life, I am here to help. I provide an affirming space to people from poly, divorced, and blended families. My practice is sex positive. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I am experienced in working with Trans, BIPOC, and Enby identities.

I'm a queer neurodivergent therapist deeply committed to promoting meaningful change in the lives of neurodivergent folx struggling with disordered eating, obsessional doubt, and anxiety. My practice is grounded in a liberatory and equity framework that recognizes the impact of systemic oppression on mental health. I embrace an anti-carceral approach to care where clients actively shape their treatment under my guidance. I strive to show up authentically for my clients to help them challenge societal expectations and cultural norms. If you've ever been told you're "too much" or "not enough," we might be a good fit.

One of my biggest struggles in life has been finding ways to show up authentically. As a Black, non-binary and queer person, finding spaces that validate core aspects of my identity have been challenging. It’s an honor to hold space for individuals who are struggling to find their voice and place in the world. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe space where you feel accepted, respected, and understood. I enjoy working with individuals from marginalized and underserved communities (BIPOC, LGBTQ+). My practice is intersectional, collaborative, based in a social justice framework, and sex positive.

Human interaction is powerful - and we often are unaware of the impact of our experiences until we speak them aloud to an understanding ear. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe, affirming space so that we can explore issues and address problems together, working from your perspective. I work with adults and adolescents who have experienced grief and bereavement, childhood trauma, anxiety and depression, chronic illness, identity-based discrimination and life transitions - as well as those who are caregivers, exploring gender and/or sexuality, or are having difficulty at work. I am an EMDR-Certified Therapist.

To do this, I mainly use a client-centered approach and aspects of Psychodynamic Art Therapy, Jungian Art Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Art therapy is not just about being able to express yourself but also being able to process and explore what is made. My role as an art therapist is to help with the processing and exploration through meeting you where you are, actively listening to what you bring into the space, and providing you with the art materials and directives that best suit your needs and where you are at. As an art therapist, it is important for me to provide a safe space, active listening, empathy, cultural humility, and open-mindedness to clients, as well as being trauma-informed.

Understanding who you are or what you are feeling is difficult when you are not even sure what words to use to describe your experience or what questions to ask yourself. Naming that is a big step. You may put on a mask to navigate the world in order to reduce the pressures you feel from society. High expectations when you were younger may make mistakes seem unacceptable. The journey to explore who you are may seem lonely. You may notice similarities in the relationships you form now with the relationship you have with your family. The early traumas in your life may be triggering you now in ways that are frustrating and upsetting.

Hey there! I feel so fortunate to have a specialty working with diverse sexualities, gender identities, and relationship structures over the past 18 years. Whether I am supporting individuals and their families with the coming-out process, assisting clients with social and/or medical transition, helping folx design relationships that actually work or creating a space where you can simply fall apart.. my hope for all of my clients is to learn how to love themselves and each other better and resolve differences more directly and fairly. I am extremely interpersonal in my work and if you'd like more clarity around that - just ask :)

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
