My areas of specialization include anxiety, depression, life transitions, pregnancy and postpartum, women's issues, relationship concerns, family conflict, and domestic violence.
I believe that an effective therapeutic relationship is built upon trust and an authentic connection between client and therapist. Many individuals are apprehensive about starting therapy as change can feel daunting. I strive to provide a comfortable and supportive environment that promotes positive change at your own pace.

I have worked extensively with individuals struggling with social anxiety, social adjustment, marriage and relationship challenges, family communication, and those who feel as though they want to be getting more out of life, school, or work.
For the past 10+ years I have been in private practice serving kids, adolescents, and adults. I provide neuropsychological and psychodiagnostic assessment and consultation as well as individual and group therapy using a strengths-based approach. Much of my practice focuses on helping Middle School and High School students who are struggling with learning, social, and emotional adjustment through collaboratively identifying the obstacles and challenges they may be facing and helping them to recognize and embrace their qualities and strengths. Evaluation also involves working closely with parents and helping to identify the most appropriate schools, supports, and home strategies.

I would work with the client through talk therapy to identify family relationships/family dynamics and provide empathy to explore and process what they believe are healthy attachments and relationships and why.
The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

I would like to help you uncover greater joy and harmony in your life and in your relationships. Life is too short to settle for anything less.

I do not do couples or family therapy, though I am open to bringing in family members occasionally as part of my work with someone.
I work mostly with people who suffer from anxiety, depression and general stuckness. I use a mix of approaches, with cognitive-behavioral ones as the biggest component of the mix. I have special interest and expertise in helping people on the autistic spectrum; people who are extremely gifted; people who suffer from anxiety (panic attacks, OCD, phobias, shyness); and people who have trouble buckling down, getting organized, and completing the tasks they want and need to do. I like my clients and enjoy my work.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
