Welcome to Empowering Encounters—the psychotherapy department at Hagan Health! We have a team of excellent mental health providers who see a wide variety of diagnoses and issues. Our therapists, Colleen, Vern, Suzy, Sheana, & Ervina are trained in a variety of backgrounds including social worker & marriage & family therapy. I am a therapist specializing in adult mental health and addiction disorders. I have 10 years of experience providing individual, family, group, and couples therapy. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient environments. My mission is to be used by God to help others reach their highest potential and purpose in life; to represent and teach tolerance, respect, and harmony; and to promote social and economic justice. I believe that all people regardless of race, culture, age, gender, religion, physical or mental disability, and sexual orientation are entitled to basic rights and fair, humane treatment.

I have worked with various populations including older children, adolescents, and adults; in individual, couple, and family therapy settings. I am trained in EMDR therapy approach and utilize cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and acceptance and commitment therapies. I have prior clinical experience in community mental health. My focus is treatment of depression, grief, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, and family connection/communication. I am a proponent of the Rogerian approach to therapy - focusing on a client’s positive potential by utilizing unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and empathy.

Amber Rakes is a dedicated and compassionate Certified Social Worker (CSW) with a strong commitment to improving the mental health and well-being of her clients. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and her passion for helping others has guided her throughout her career. Amber works with Angel Arms Counseling where the moto is to find peace. Dr. Martorano is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 40 years of experience in many aspects of mental health and addictions. He has worked in the local community mental health center, in family health as an internal behavioral health consultant, and in inpatient psychiatric and addiction hospitals. Dr. Martorano is comfortable and familiar with individuals at all socioeconomic levels and all walks of life. There is no one size fits all treatment approach, so Dr. Martorano tailors treatment to the specific individual, couple, or family. Dr. Martorano received his PhD in clinical psychology from Rutgers.

Life is a series of transitions - some peaks and some valleys. I find these valleys often are a result of internal conflict and external events or pressure. I believe that we all have an authentic self and much of the internal conflict comes from living inauthentically, which develops into maladaptive behaviors. There’s “the way it seems” and “the way it is,” and sometimes we all need someone to remind us of “the way it is.” That’s where I come in - my goals are to work TOGETHER with you to navigate a new path toward living your most authentic life and finding inner peace and confidence to be that person.
