I like to use a few modalities from my Marriage and Family Therapy training.
I see families, couples and individuals that want a new way to relate to themselves and to each other. I provide a safe and open minded environment where we can look at things with fresh eyes, minds and hearts. Therapy with me is a lantern of sorts, a light trained to see the sticking points in your relationships and/or behavior patterns, mirroring those things back to you, exploring what they might mean, where and when they came and what you’d like to do going forward. Healing generations of patterns and pain can change the future for you and your loved ones.

My areas of focus are: grief and loss, trauma, anxiety and depression, relationships, behavioral concerns, family/interpersonal conflict, stress, and co-parenting.
I understand that the thought of going to therapy can generate massive feelings of anxiety, but really, therapy is a hopeful process, one of realizing your strengths and learning more advantageous approaches to the challenges life can bring. I specialize in therapy with adolescents and adults, couples, individuals, families and blended families.

I understand the importance of considering the whole person and how experiences (past and present), environment (home, school, work), and relationships (family, friends, mentors) affect you.
Does life feel overwhelming? Are you experiencing emotional distress or behaving in ways that negatively impact you or your relationships? As a counselor at Lee Pesky Learning Center, I work with clients who face barriers to reaching their full potential in life. These obstacles may include emotional, social, learning, and/or executive function needs; symptoms of ADHD, trauma, depression, and/or anxiety. My goal is to help you explore what matters to you, including your unique strengths, internal resources, and values. I will help you envision what your life could look and feel like.

I love it when clients tell me, "I come from a dysfunctional family.
I have been at this for a long time and I feel that people know what's best and what they want for themselves, but they don't know how to get there at times. They need help, support and confidence in themselves to get there. There are so many variables that get in the way including various forms of abuse, mental health issues, family problems and drug and alcohol issues. I love to help clients work through these issues and concerns to help them restore confidence in themselves and be able to trust their own decisions. Most of all they deserve to look forward to their future!

I was a full-time therapist for 10 years working in youth & family centers, schools & court programs.
My style is direct, down to Earth and intuitive. I prefer to use humor and common sense over clinical jargon and stuffiness. I am in the performing arts and my counseling sessions are held in my studio with all my music equipment and my dog. Most of my clients are dealing with issues related to adjustments, life transitions, relationships, self esteem, grief, and anxiety. I work with individuals/couples/families, adults and children. I am 100% freelance so I don't accommodate no-shows or frequent rescheduling. I do not accept insurance but I offer a sliding fee scale.

I help my clients understand their attachment patterns so they can have healthier relationships. If you feel stuck in your relationship, cycle through the same argument with your partner, or have a deep desire to be the parent to your child that your parent struggled to be to you, then we'll likely be a good fit. In our initial sessions, we will explore your family history to determine beliefs that you formed about relationships - both with yourself and others. My goal is to guide you in better understanding your relationships so that you can heal your attachment wounds and break unhealthy, multi-generational family cycles.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
