My lifetime time passion has been working alongside those that at a certain point in their life seek support, acceptance and guidance. I see the therapeutic process as a shared journey, whether it is with an individual, a family, or a group. I incorporate in my work different therapeutic styles and provide a safe space for you to process your experiences. Because of my work with families, I also understand the need to be able to detect early academic and behavior difficulties in their children. The Mental Health Evaluation does just that. The earlier the detection of those difficulties the more successful that child will be in life.

I value having an emotionally-sensitive, humanistic and intuitive approach to supporting each family I work with.
In Love We Learn provides support for individuals with sensorimotor differences (autism and otherwise), their families, and their team of practitioners. Sensorimotor differences can impact so much. Life is complex, and can become even more so when considering someone living with and experiencing these differences. Families may struggle to find clinicians who can provide fulfilling guidance and support. My clients are looking for someone who can provide a unique perspective to their families' care. They are looking to build an intentional lifestyle around their loved one who is motor-impacted.

Welcome! I pride myself in providing child & adolescent specific care that heavily emphasizes family engagement. I find more optimal outcomes in my work when parents are willing to become vulnerable and connect with their children. Too often, we become focused on what children are not doing right and on their pathology that we lose sight of the things they are good at and the things that make them precious and unique. I teach parents how to harness their children's strengths to aid them in overcoming their struggles. The heart of this work lies in connection. If a child does not feel connected and safe, they will not heal.

My approach is psychodynamic drawing upon internal family systems, inner child work, CBT, guided imagery, Inner Bonding and the Release Technique.
Everyone has the ability to heal from the deepest of wounds and the most challenging of circumstances. There's a saying, "Healing is the application of love to the places inside that hurt." I'm here to fully support you in tending to those places. Together we will journey into understanding the major themes and patterns in your life and what they are trying to teach you. This increased level of awareness can help you access your strength and intuition, eliminate negative self talk and choose a more fulfilling relationship with yourself, others and life. I offer a 15 minute meet and greet to ensure we are a good fit.

I mostly use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), internal family systems (IFS) therapy, the Gottman method and Imago therapy.
Every one of us is worthy of healing from deep wounds and being in healthy, meaningful relationships – with self and with others. The journey towards this healing may not always be easy or straightforward, but having a co-pilot to navigate it with relieves stress and helps avoid frustrating detours.

An increased awareness during these years can influence closer family bonds and a more satisfying relationship, as children become adults.
The evolving challenges of raising children involve the addition of new technology and an ever-increasing pressure to succeed. Keeping on top of these dynamics can at best overwhelm and at worst alienate those in even the most healthy families. Teens pass through a stage of fluctuating hormonal levels, while negotiating burgeoning independence, and navigating the waters of social media along with peer pressure. Meanwhile parents are dealing with keeping a household afloat, managing the family and their careers, while often having aging parents and/or dealing with grief over their loss. When teens and parents need a little help or mental health challenges require more effort for daily living than they should, learning new coping skills with or without medication can make a difference. Discovering what influences behaviors and learning ways to express what needs to be said can empower parents and their children to find more happiness and fulfillment in life. Sorting through these challenges and developing coping techniques that help organize and balance communication is my goal with all families and individuals.

Why does it feel like you’re living for everyone but yourself? Your family relies on you for everything from dinner plans to school projects. You take on extra assignments at work even when your plate is overflowing. Friends ask you for favors, and you can’t say no. You wish there was a way to create time for yourself, but you hate the idea of letting anyone down. So you keep pushing through. And no matter how hard you work, there’s still a voice in your head telling you it’s not enough. Fun is nonexistent, and you can’t remember the last time you did anything for yourself. You can’t go on like this, but change feels hopeless.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
