Like many of the families we work with, you may be feeling stuck. Perhaps you've read books, skimmed websites, and talked to friends and family in an effort to address your child's emotional or behavioral issues...yet he/she still seems to be struggling. Turning to someone else for help can feel like a big step. After all, as your child's parent, who knows him/her better than you? We agree. Thrive Child Psychology works in partnership with youth and families to get to the root of challenges, establish goals, and use research-based tools to achieve them

Our office also offers free services to first responders and their family members (EMS, Fire, and Police of Pinellas).
I really enjoy working through a variety of issues, and have a unique and comforting approach to guiding clients out of whatever they are currently sitting with. I believe the client is the expert in their own lives and they are capable of change, but sometimes need some help to figure out their path and find solutions. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to any issue, and use various methods such as EMDR, DBT, ACT, and solution focused, depending on your needs. I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work with couples.

I have been a Florida Licensed Psychologist since 1976, providing the highest quality of Psychological services to children, teenagers, adults, and families in the Tampa Bay area. Although I work with children as young as 2 years old and adults who are over 80 years young, I have always had a heartfelt interest in providing assistance to individuals with special needs and to their family members, as well. As a result of my strong belief that no one lives in a vacuum, whenever I provide therapeutic assistance to an individual, I frequently involve members of that individual's close family.

Have you ever wondered why you find yourself falling into the same unhealthy patterns in your personal, career or family life? Living a fulfilled life has to do with identifying the negative core beliefs that perpetuate the repetitive patterns of discomfort that we experience in our lives. Our perception is our reality. Only until we alter these misperceptions, will true and lasting change occur. My approach is a combination of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapy and various holistic healing techniques to offer total overall healing and wellness.

I provide evidence-based therapies that target symptoms and focus on developing concrete skills to get back in control, help you feel less depressed or anxious, and feeling more connected with you life and those around you!

For over 25 years, I have treated individuals and couples in the Tampa Bay area. My typical client is a professional person who is struggling with the stress of work, relationships, or parenting. A significant percentage of couples I work with are "dual career" couples, who have the added stress of career and family. I enjoy working with clients to improve communication skills and to reduce stress. My goal is for my clients to learn, or remember, how to enjoy a meaningful and fulfilling life, in spite of whatever obstacles life presents to them.

I completed my masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Southeastern University.
Have you ever felt like no one understands what you are going through? That you are alone on this road called life and not really sure where it is taking you? You may feel “weak” if you seek therapy, but let me tell you that is the complete opposite of what you are. By you finding help you are proving to yourself that you are stronger than what you think. As you take this big step in your journey it can bring a lot of nerves and excitement at the same time. It is not easy to find a stranger to talk about your feelings with. I want to be the person who will fill your cup up when you need it the most.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
