My practice includes listening from a psychodynamic perspective (understanding family and intergenerational dynamics) , focusing on the here and now through somatic and mindfulness techniques, developing a person's intuition, and understanding how a person relates to people in their life through the therapeutic relationship.
It is brave to choose how you want to craft your life. Many people are struggling through big life transitions, are unhappy in their relationships, or they want to move past anxiety and depression. Therapy is a place to understand what is happening now, and how to create something different and better to feel more satisfied. If this is you, I offer a space to look at and understand what is happening in your life, and how you can regain a sense of agency to create what you want. I am warm and engaging, and together we find patterns in your life that keep showing up and getting in your way. We look at how to cultivate what you want.

By the time people get to me they’ve often tried many things. They’ve read self-help books, perused articles, confided in friends about problems that just don’t seem to go away. Those issues span the gamut, from difficulty with family members to on-the-job problems, to outright trauma, to a nagging sense of dissatisfaction with life. “What can I do about this?” people want to know. My answer is usually something along the lines of “Let’s try to understand more.” Things are often not what they seem at first glance. My office is a place to figure things out, to increase empathy for yourself and others, and to make needed changes.

A good "fit" with your therapist is essential for feeling heard and understood. Sometimes, it takes a few sessions to get a feel for it. Other times, we can tell in an initial conversation. I am excited to begin that process with you. Whether you are facing challenges in your family, your relationships, or yourself, it would be a privilege to help you on your path to a more satisfying and healthier way.

Many of my patients seek therapy to work through issues of identity, family concerns, relationships, and careers.
Therapy can be a process of both healing and growing. Together we can explore important aspects of your past, while working to improve your present. I foster warm and collaborative relationships with my patients so that they feel understood, supported, and appropriately challenged. As your therapist, I would be committed to helping you develop the tools and mindset necessary to face present and future challenges. I would also support you in achieving greater self-acceptance, authenticity, and more satisfying relationships. I approach each new therapy relationship with curiosity, flexibility, and openness.

Men often feel the pressure to surpass an ideal, and falling short of it can lead to anxiety, depression, and other difficulties. It's important to talk to someone who understands the male experience and can help you recover your life. As a "wounded healer," I understand the struggles of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, and self-harm. These challenges can impact every aspect of our lives, from relationships to work and hobbies. But there is hope.

In my practice I treat women, ages 18-45, dealing with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, disordered eating, body image disturbances, anxiety, perfectionism, and depression, as well as relationship and identity issues. Therapy can be helpful as you navigate times of transition, change, or if you are 'stuck' or unable to achieve desired goals. Together, we will determine what is getting in the way of progress and then help you work through those things to become the best possible version of yourself.

Ready for less surviving and more flourishing? Less chaos and more ease? You feel like a hot mess, pouring so much energy into getting by. You want success at school or work, better connections with your partner, friends, and family, and a satisfying sex life. You wish you could have more fun. But past failures, disappointments, heartbreak, or regrets keep haunting you. It feels like the pandemic reinforced these mental and emotional shackles.

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page and for considering me for your mental health needs. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in DC and Virginia. Antiracist and identity-affirming practice is very important to me. I help clients navigate mood-related concerns (e.g., anxiety and depression), relationship issues, identity conflicts, and family of origin issues, among others. Accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP) informs my work.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
