As a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, I have over 20 years experience in the area of grief and loss, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, women's issues, adolescent issues, and other life challenges.
Grief and loss can leave you feeling shattered, as though you will never experience joy again. It's difficult knowing where to turn for help during these times. Finding someone to help you navigate your grief journey is important to your healing and wholeness. I will provide the help you are looking for in a safe and supportive setting, as you walk through life's struggles.

I have formal training/experience in Master Resilience Trainer (MRT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Play Therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), and many more.
Feeling/thinking that your coping skills no longer serve you, alone, out of control, helpless, hopeless, having trouble in your relationship, etc? I’d love to provide support to you, your family, you & your partner, or your child along the way while you work in concert to find the root of the “problem” that is manifesting itself in the symptoms that you're experiencing. I'm, to the utmost, passionate about helping people. I foster a safe environment that's entirely non-judgmental where you can feel free to express yourself. I truly believe that a healthy counseling relationship is instrumental in promoting growth and happiness.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and consider my specialties to include trauma treatment, EMDR, school issues, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), family issues, highly conflictual relationships of any type, self-injury, suicide ideation and attempts, "oppositional defiant" behaviors, and "stuck" living patterns, to name just a few.
I believe that the most important factor of success in therapy is the authentic relationship. I have a passion for learning about each client's talents and strengths and using those to increase their life satisfaction. I believe that all people have a desire to live the best lives they can live, and at times need support in identifying and eliminating the barriers that prevent them from doing so. I believe that trauma, whether from watching the daily news or experiencing combat in war, is at the root of many of these barriers.

You leave every visit feeling informed and educated, treated like an individual with unique values and preferences, supported to express your specific needs, and discuss the financial impact of recent events on you and your family.
Every morning is the same. The alarm goes off, and you hit the snooze button over and over before finally tumbling out of bed. Why? Because facing the day is drudgery. You get all the necessary tasks done but without enthusiasm, connection, or joy. The panic and fear are just icing on the cake. That voice in your head tells you, “Don’t bother. You’ll never measure up.” No one knows how hard it is to keep going. It doesn’t feel safe to tell them. Where did the voice come from? When did it start? Too long ago to remember. One thing’s for sure, nothing you’ve tried has worked.

I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Sandplay therapy, which are gentle and effective methods for treating trauma.
Does your life seem overwhelming? Do you feel worthless, alone or depressed? Do you try to improve your relationships, but nothing seems to help? Possibly you ruminate on circumstances from your past which robs you of a peaceful present. This may cause depression and/or anxiety, which makes your life difficult. You may feel completely alone in this. I have also struggled with these issues, and found a lot of healing through therapy. I am confident that you can too. Are you ready to make changes in your life so you can have a joy-filled future? I believe this is possible for you!

Nothing seems to be working, as the day’s pass you noticed a disconnect. The relationship is becoming unfamiliar. Your partner no longer feels like your partner. Arguments are more common than compliments and toxic exchanges seem like the norm these days. The stress is starting to affect other aspects of your life. The relationship with yourself seems more like a distant memory. You could use a vent session with someone who gets it. whether you're arguing more with your partner or constantly yelling at the kids. Do you find yourself wondering what happened to the laughter and love? Where did the relationships take a detour?

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
