Have you experienced trauma, stress or loss in your life? The answer is yes, we all have a different tolerance for the things life throws at us. Everyday we experience adversities that can add up over our lifetime. Unfortunately, we live in a society that too often has a "forget about it and move on" attitude. I want to help you slow down and really look at how your life journey has impacted your overall mental health. My goal is to create a safe place for you or your child to begin understanding how these stressors are impacting your life. I want to normalize the importance of self awareness, communication and self love.

Are you thinking of starting therapy because you struggle with romantic, family or work relationships? Do you find it challenging to address your own needs? People who seek out my services often know these issues exist but want support with moving from knowing to healing and growing. They don't want a therapist who nods their head. They want a therapist who empathizes, provides insights and humbly provides alternative ways to exist in this world.

Did your family trigger the hell out of you over the holidays? Maybe you noticed things about your family dynamics you never noticed before. Perhaps they even brought out some of the traits you don't like so much about yourself. Maybe some of the trauma you've been through feels super edgy and close to the surface right now. We can help you. Trauma resolution is about moving the stuck gunk of trauma out of your body, mind, and heart. Getting relief from the constant state of anxiety... or a state of being totally checked out. We can help you face the hard stuff to bring peace and safety back to your nervous system.

I am a compassionate, research-driven counseling candidate with therapeutic experience in trauma, substance abuse, family counseling, and child and adolescent development. My occupational journey began as an elementary school teacher; my therapeutic journey began in forensic counseling, working with adults on probation. There, I discovered an intimate link between childhood maladjustment and the development of thoughts and behaviors that dramatically increase the likelihood of incarceration and poor health outcomes.

As an adult, you are beginning to realize that your childhood wasn’t “just normal”. You got away from total chaos in your family. Or maybe you left the church you were raised in. Or perhaps you have been rejected by past community for your sexual or gender identity. You thought you could just move on but you can’t. This experience has left you totally destabilized. It feels like anxiety and depression are tag teaming. You don’t know who you are anymore. You feel so alone. All of your friends who didn’t have this experience just don’t get it. At the very least you just want to feel normal but what even is that?

My specialties include: Lesbian relationship counseling - Pre-marital, or “next-step” relationship counseling - Individuals facing long-term illness, terminal illness, or death of a family member - Those in transition (new parents, "empty-nesters", separation/divorce/new parental relationship, career change) - Grief and loss - Self-esteem - Boundaries.
If you are like many of my clients, you might want to rekindle lost feelings or deepen the connection you already have with your partner or other loved one. Maybe you weren't given a blueprint for a healthy relationship- you know what you DON'T want, but don't exactly know how to manifest what you DO want. You might be a "helper", have a hard time saying "no", and find yourself feeling used up and burned out. You might be looking for healing, balance, and a better understanding of who you are after a big loss or other major life change. You might be queer, or questioning your sexuality, and want support in exploring your identity.

I work primarily with adolescents and adults and lead groups with a focus around relationship dynamics and family systems.
My intention is to create a powerful therapeutic relationship between myself and my clients. I know and have witnessed that struggling with sexuality issues can often lead to feelings of shame or embarrassment. I see our sexualities as one of the most diverse and unique parts of ourselves. I believe that difference does not equal disorder, and being "normal" is often not the goal. I am poly/open and kink knowledgeable and have experience in working with non-traditional relationship dynamics, LGBTQIA2+ issues, individuals and couples & families relationship issues.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
