I use Interpersonal/Relational, Self-Compassion, Psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems (Parts work), Somatic Experiencing, and Trauma Narrative therapies.
Thanks for visiting my page. I have discovered a common obstacle among clients is how they are highly self-critical with themselves and subsequently experience distress in their world. This process manifests into or intensifies symptoms (i.e. depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-worth, and/or relationship issues, etc). Using a relational approach, I work to help clients build self-awareness, add language to their past experiences that impact their present, and build skills to cope. My intention is to help you experience long-term well-being where we not only treat the symptoms, but also explore the root of your concerns.

We all want to feel seen and heard in our closest relationships but sometimes struggle to know how to foster that feeling. It can be difficult to express how we are feeling to another person, especially if we fear their reaction. I help clients build the tools for effective interpersonal communication while maintaining their own values and sense of self. In my approach, I guide clients to use their emotions as a tool for understanding their needs and boundaries. I support individuals, couples, and families who are wanting to improve their relationships, whether that be with themselves, their partners, or family members.

The clients I work with are often hoping to change their relationship patterns and heal from relationship/family trauma.
Do you feel stuck in a cycle of unhealthy relationships? Do you feel like your suffering has become too heavy to carry alone? When this happens, we can feel unloveable, broken, alone, and unable to heal and move forward. My goal is to create a therapy space where you feel supported and guided, and that I'm not just another person to talk to. Together we will work on breaking the cycle you are stuck in and empower you to create a future unburdened by your past.

Some of the modalities that I use are Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, family systems, and others.
I see beauty and humanity in each individual, not a label or diagnosis. My office is a judgement-free space where I embrace diversity in all its forms. I enjoy working with individuals and couples to nourish attachment, connection and intimacy. One of my passions is helping others experience the life changing joy of parenthood. I work with couples from preconception through pregnancy and beyond to maintain a strong and healthy sex life. Another passion of mine is working with individuals on a journey of self discovery, acceptance, and self-love.

I believe that everything including finances, eating patterns, sleep cycles, family of origin, job satisfaction, nutrition, exercise, support system, as well as identity and sense of purpose are all integrated into the "why's" of our struggles.
Currently doing Tele-therapy, but back in-person starting March 1st 2020. -- The heart of Being Alive Counseling is to journey with you through everyday issues, as well as deeper addictions and trials, towards wholeness and healing. Counseling is not an attempt to fix all of your problems but to journey through them together. Whatever is making you believe that life is not good (be it depression, life transition, a trauma, marital problems), Being Alive Counseling believes you can return to your source of joy and meaning. We love to help in life transitions, to clean up the mental mess and believe it can be good again!

Life will inevitably bring up intense emotions and feelings: shame, fear, confusion, etc. Overwhelming pressure, life transitions, past trauma, or simply the burden of daily stressors can pile on you until it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. When overwhelmed, you may find it relatively impossible to maintain close relationships with family, friends, and significant others. This can create a vicious cycle of anxiety, isolation, and hopelessness. It can feel like you have no way out of this bleak season.

I primarily draw on mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems .
I take a holistic and contextual approach to therapy. I want to know your sources of pain - but I also want to know what you value, what has shaped you, where you draw inspiration, your beliefs, and how you feel in your own body. We’ll peel back layers, we'll process distress, and we'll build practical tools to manage the challenges you're facing. Ultimately, we’ll build a more authentic, empowered sense of self. If something is no longer serving you, let’s figure out how to change it. My areas of focus include sexuality, sex, identity, anxiety, depression, relationships, and life-transitions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
