I am very effective with children who have behavioral challenges due to trauma, pressures, family troubles, or unknowns. I easily connect with teens who struggle to fit in or feel understood so they can open up and allow me to help them. I empower young adults who are feeling anxious and/or depressed. I can guide couples to rekindle their passion and commitment for each other as two separate grounded individuals who choose each other on a regular basis. I guide adult individuals who are going through break ups to have major breakthroughs in their journey. Let's get you to wherever you want to be.

My clinical interests include working with single-parent families, African-American women, multiracial individuals and families, couples, and exploring the effects of family patterns on individuals and their lives.
I provide psychotherapy services to clients to help them explore their lives and find meaning in their relationships. I work to empower and encourage clients to be more self-aware, explore their feelings, and improve their ability to navigate their experiences. I like to explore a variety of therapeutic modalities to find what best suits each client as every client is different and one size does not fit all when it comes to treatment. I like to listen to my clients and ensure that what I'm hearing is what they are saying. I also like to let them know they have choices, especially since it's their well-being that we are discussing.

The relationship with yourself, with your partner, and with your friends and family.
Most of the individuals and couples I work with are all experiencing some version of the same thing: unmet emotional and/or physical needs. Listen, not every couple goes through that wonderful honeymoon stage. Some couples love each other fiercely from the very beginning, but also fight each other with just as much fire. And those who did experience the magical honeymoon stage, can often finding themselves struggling to maintain it after life starts happening. Are you walking on eggshells? Having the same fight over and over again? Wondering if things will ever change?

I help people work through trauma, relational/attachment issues, anxiety, depression, abuse, family conflict, low self-esteem, and life transitions.
I'm Jaimie Velasquez, a second-generation Filipina-American and a therapist that's a fellow traveler in your therapeutic journey. I collaborate with you to explore the aspects of your life that you have unconsciously avoided but are now seeping through the cracks. I can help identify the unconscious habits and thoughts that distract you from the here and now. I want to explore the uncomfortable parts of life with you in order to identify the barriers that are making you feel stuck. Together, we can examine and heal the cracks in your life by building a foundation of self-awareness and insight to your true needs and wants.

I believe in therapeutic conversation; I am not the 'expert' on your life; you are that expert. My expertise lies in facilitating dialogue that looks at the obstacles currently blocking your preferred vision for your current and future self. My ultimate quarry is change: not just the hoped for differences you may want from your partner, your job, your family, but the changes from within that you must incorporate. The old adage really is true: you can only change yourself. Truly effective therapy happens when you are honestly ready to tackle the person in the mirror.

Hi. My name is Luis Maimoni. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in relationships of all kinds. Relationships with partners, with friends and family, and with co-workers are vital parts of our lives. When our relationships are great, we feel great. When our relationships are "having difficulties" or "experiencing challenges", so are we. If you're reading this, my guess is that one or more of your relationships is not in the "great" category. I can relate.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
