I am a bicultural, bilingual Mexican-American therapist who was the first in my family to graduate from college.
Our everyday life challenges may feel overwhelming, and you may want to learn new techniques to manage difficult times to alleviate those challenges. Searching for a therapist to work with in partnership to process life challenges is essential and can also be overwhelming. Considering me as your therapist, I want you to know that I am committed to listening and validating your experience and emotions. I want to acknowledge the strength and courage it takes to make the first step in connecting to therapy services. Everyone can change, grow, and build resilience at their own pace in an empathetic and non-judgmental environment.

I am proud to be a clinician practicing through TheraThrive where I offer a variety of services including individual (adult or child) and family therapy.
I specialize in working with ADHD, HSP, and ASD. Being in our bodies- and being in our world- can be very difficult. This is especially true when when you're a highly sensitive person. My typical client often hears "you're being too much" while also dreading the feeling of not "being enough". I'm here to take a deep dive into what's making you feel like "too much" and highlight the ways you are "just enough for the right people". Typically, my client's goals are to live more comfortably in their sensitive skin, find liberation from shame, and better manage depression and anxiety.

I specialize in helping people through life transitions of all kinds- from work/career to family and personal. Change is a part of life, and it can be disruptive, unsettling, and challenging. It can also be an opportunity for creativity and evaluation of our lives. I help people assess where they are now, where they want to go, and how to get there. Trained as a high level violinist, I have a particular passion for helping musicians and athletes through transitions related to their sport or instrument- things like dealing with injuries, or making decisions about whether to pursue athletics or music at the next higher level.

As we become more aware of our experience - our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and sensations – as well as the contexts we’re experiencing them in – our culture, community, family, partnership - we can develop more freedom and choice around how we engage.
I hold that therapy can be different from person to person, from day to day. There is no “right” way to do this. My hope is that together, we’ll create a space that supports you in deepening your self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-empowerment. I will meet you where you are, holding that you are the expert on your own experience, and that you have within you everything you need to heal.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
