Hello and welcome. As a therapist for over 25 years, my goal is to create a safe environment for individuals, couples, children and families. This enables us to delve into important emotional, practical and relational concerns. Learning emotional regulation, coping and problem solving skills are often an important focus. Together we explore present circumstances and ways the past may have created obstacles to moving forward. In therapy we try to understand your personal challenges and use your strengths to work toward creating a life that is meaningful and fulfilling for you and your family.

Couples or individuals struggling with conflict, stress, or overwhelming circumstances will find a safe place here to sort their thoughts and feelings about the issues while learning to repair and create deeper connections with loved ones. As a systems therapist, I understand the challenges of life transitions and help strengthen couple relationships and family cohesion and resilience through various life challenges. For clients struggling with past family of origin issues, we work to heal difficult memories. I help clients grow from brokenness, trauma, grief and loss to find healing, hope, peace and a new direction.

My methods include Brainspotting; EMDR; EFT; Theta Healing; writing and narrative; and Cognitive, Psychodynamic, Family-of-Origin and Systems therapies.
Psychotherapy for individuals and groups regarding life issues: work, aging, health, relationships, finances, loss and grief, and experiencing the Self. I facilitate adaptation to ongoing living loss such as a medical diagnosis, forced estrangement, or the failing health of a beloved family member. Coping skills are formed early to survive in family-of-origin, which is a microcosm of the culture. As we age, these skills become less adaptive, causing pain. Successful transition through life involves changing ways of coping with life-enhancing skills, and building resilience through healing attachment issues and trauma.

Whether working with couples or individuals, I embrace a family systems perspective, which means I recognize the powerful impact that relationships have on our lives.
Welcome to LiveWell Counseling. I enjoy working with adults and couples at various stages of their lives by helping them recognize their strengths and needs in order to solve problems and build stronger relationships. My approach to therapy is curious and client-centered, with an emphasis on the role that emotions, beliefs, and narratives play in shaping identity and behavior. In addition to helping people work through difficult issues, I also enjoy working with individuals who are interested in therapy as a process for facilitating personal growth and wholeness.

Reaching out is a big decision. We all have the ability to change, learn and grow. We are not born with skills, throughout our life we gain many coping mechanisms, but some of those are born out of survival, fear or toxic family dynamics and might make it challenging to navigate in relationships or during life’s transitions. For many this leads to experiencing a variety of symptoms. Life can also throw us some big curveballs that feel impossible to adjust to. I believe with assistance anyone can process the past, heal, build coping skills and cultivate a mindset that is needed to create a life that is enjoyable

I also provide couples and family counseling, adolescent counseling, and support clients as they heal from chronic and acute trauma.
My passion is helping clients rediscover their true potentials and bring joy back into their lives. I follow a strengths-based model of practice while utilizing a combination of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques. Essentially, I believe in a holistic approach, in that all of our experiences (physical, emotional, spiritual, and social) are integral in our unique compositions. Our early experiences often show up in our current lives, and can manifest themselves in a myriad of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I value the interaction with my clients and believe in empowering clients by direct participation in the therapeutic process.

My goal is to help my clients find their path through trauma legacy within their environment, whether it be their own or that of a family member.
I know life is complicated and you would not be seeking therapy if you were not in one of those complicated moments in life, whether it be about a relationship with your spouse, your child or simply with yourself. My goal is to help you find a way to navigate those muddy waters and to make life not quite so rocky. I personally have a passion for parents and kids. I have worked in the field of child welfare and adoption and have seen the impact trauma has on the young and the old. I recognize how early childhood trauma impacts an individual throughout their life and impacts all relationships.

I utilize principles from family systems, attachment theory, and developmental psychology to promote relationships based on trust, authenticity, and integrity.
Therapy is an opportunity to renegotiate your relationship with yourself and important others in your life. It starts with understanding who you are and deepens into an investigation of whatever it is that hinders you from living an authentic, purposeful, joyful life. As your therapist, I'll support you in identifying what you need to experience meaningful engagement in your life and to embody that self-knowledge in creative, powerful new ways.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
