Hi there, my name is Aurora San Pedro and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of CA. Challenges are inevitable and being able to move beyond them requires effort to find what works best for you. Our minds are like a GARDEN. What we choose to nourish, will grow and what will grow will lead to our actions and behaviors. I am here to help you plant (replant) seeds that will help you live the life you truly want to have. When experiencing hardship, the resilience, courage and strength it takes to prioritize your needs can be challenging. I want to provide reassurance that you are not alone in getting there.

My style involves working collaboratively to help my clients improve the quality of their lives in their work, their relationships and their interests. Eating disorders are painful illnesses that are influenced by many factors. Your emotional experiences as well as your relationships and history may be creating struggles with food and body. Eating disorders can be lonely but you do not have to face this alone. Your healing is valuable and therapy is a great place to start so that you can carry your power into your life and the world. I have treated eating disorders for over 10 years and am passionate about guiding others whether in making larger changes or in equally valid harm reduction. - Please note, I do not take any insurance at this time. I can provide a monthly superbill.

I provide a safe environment for clients to be able to work with me in developing a treatment plan that meets their unique needs, addressing the behavioral issues and what might be contributing to them. My focus is holistic which means that treatment addresses thoughts, behaviors, the environment and the body's reactions to these things. I am experienced at working with many issues; including PTSD, anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, OCD, substance abuse, separation issues, adoption and issues related to abuse and neglect. I work with both adults and children.

When we've lost touch with our truer self, life is just harder. If you're not as present and engaged in your life as you'd like, you may also find your body weighing in through symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and unhelpful patterns of behavior. Underlying such symptoms are often vital, "offline" parts of ourselves that a good therapeutic alliance can help you to identify, strengthen and expand. If you're experiencing a readiness to take your online search for a therapist to the next level, I offer a brief phone consultation to help determine goodness of fit.

You are here because you are hurting and want to heal. Healing is possible and you deserve love and acceptance for just being you- your full authentic self. I have been treating anxiety, depression, identity, codependency, eating disorders, low self esteem and relationships issues in children, teens and adults since 2007. My therapeutic style is often more directive, as I see myself as a part of your therapeutic process-not a quiet observer. I use a balance of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and exploring how your childhood shaped your current thoughts and behaviors.

Hello and welcome! Seeking assistance with our pain, worry, and shame is not an easy thing to do. So often our suffering shows up in our thoughts, behaviors, and/or relationship patterns. I want to acknowledge how understandable this is, especially when we have survived difficult circumstances and the world around us doesn't feel safe. My goal is to help you realize that there is nothing inherently "wrong" with you. Together we will work on releasing shame, living within your values, and helping you heal from what has happened to you.

Life is so much more than whether or not we are breathing, or if our biological processes are working well. Life involves our own capacities for growth, adaptation, and responses to internal and external stimuli. In other words, we are living beings but are we truly living? Do you approach each day with hope and focus and want support in creating plans? Are you struggling to identify who you are at your very core and how to manage your ever demanding and changing world? Can you define what living your life means to you? Are you growing, adapting, and responding in healthy and harmonious ways? If not, would you like to?

Are you someone looking for guidance on how to be your best self for your partner, kids or community? Do you need some support from someone who has "been there" to help you "get there"? Usually, we are growing and changing to adjust to life circumstances. What if, no matter the circumstances you could develop skills where you can have a steady heart, soul and mind to weather all life can throw your way. As your therapist I can consistently support you to help you uncover and release conditioned behaviors you have known all your life so you can be a more free individual to achieve your life goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
