Hi there, my name is Aurora San Pedro and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of CA. Challenges are inevitable and being able to move beyond them requires effort to find what works best for you. Our minds are like a GARDEN. What we choose to nourish, will grow and what will grow will lead to our actions and behaviors. I am here to help you plant (replant) seeds that will help you live the life you truly want to have. When experiencing hardship, the resilience, courage and strength it takes to prioritize your needs can be challenging. I want to provide reassurance that you are not alone in getting there.

My style involves working collaboratively to help my clients improve the quality of their lives in their work, their relationships and their interests. I help women and mothers who strive to live life from barely surviving to thriving. Together, we will build a self-narrative where you will embody the type of 'main character energy' everyone deserves to live. I aim to provide a safe space for women, mothers (and couples) who often feel overwhelmed in leading their many life roles. My experience in providing mental health services to low-income families with children exhibiting at-risk behaviors helped shift my focus to the center of the family: the wellness of mother (and parents). I believe the best way to offer quality love and care to others is to serve from a full cup.

We will focus on transforming trauma and family dysfunction, both inter-generational and personal, so you are able to experience the pleasures of self-awareness, connection, and love.
I work with women: daughters, mothers, sisters, aunts, and grandmothers, and the people who desire to enjoy healthy, loving relationships with them. Together we work to develop the insight and skills necessary to experience the pleasure of love. We may explore trauma, loss, grief, anger, repressed desire, lack of vitality, and current challenging relationships. My orientation is analytical, depth/archetypal, and feminist. I am trained to listen for ways in which your own unconscious is your truest guidance. Through this connection you may access hidden aspects of potential. Above all, I am in service to your feminine empowerment.

There are many modalities that I like to employ, dialectical and behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion focused therapy, and family systems.
Hi, first I want to commend you for having the courage to reach out. It is very humbling to admit that we don't feel well or we aren't behaving like the person we want to be. Therapy is a hopeful non judgmental place where healing and growth can happen. I have benefited myself from professional help and will be along side you to join you in whatever goals you set for yourself. The human condition comes along with many challenges and powerful emotions we cannot avoid, but I do believe there is a way to handle them with grace and self love. And to tend to those wounds without letting them drive us.

Are you feeling like no one understands you? Having feelings of not belonging and that you don’t even know your own self anymore, I am here to help you to navigate through this feelings of uncertainty and not belonging. Very often, others, like family and friends, can’t understand our trauma and pain, and we don’t want to burden them with it anymore. We feel like a broken record when we share that we aren’t doing well. We are embarrassed that we haven’t healed by now. Healing doesn’t have a timeline. I’m here to help you discover what you need and to make sense of your overwhelming feelings of confusion and anxiety.

Struggling with addiction & feel rehab isn’t an option? Want to adjust your relationship with a substance instead of being told you must quit? Leaving your family, job, school or responsibilities for an extended period of time is not always needed to get yourself healthy & on track. If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction, I know the challenges of this lifestyle. Being caught in the cycle of addiction is hard...feelings of anxiety, guilt, & shame. You may have tried cutting back or stopping on your own, only to find yourself engaging in the same unhelpful pattern. I specialize in moderation & abstinence based approaches.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
