We are living in uncertain and uneasy times. I believe that taking care of your mental health is a necessity. If you are struggling to navigate your emotions you are not alone. We are seeing a rise in anxiety, depression & conflict within relationships. Are you arguing with your partner/family/friends & struggling to find common ground, or holding resentments? Are you feeling more anxious & fearful or find yourself crying more often and not feeling like yourself?

Hello there! I’m Alicia. I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, but you might also call me a compassionate guide and mind-body connector. I help women, men, and non-binary individuals, couples, and triad clients who long for a supportive space to heal what has been hurt and create an environment to thrive through meaningful connection. My clients may feel stuck in patterns and would like to develop more meaningful relationships. Or maybe they are struggling to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, or those of a loved one. Or perhaps they are beginning to process trauma.

Some of my areas of expertise include: anxiety, ADHD, OCD, depression, trauma, family dynamics, life transitions, marital issues, divorce, and co-parenting.
Working through difficult experiences and emotions can be challenging. It can be even harder to make desired changes in ones life when certain patterns have been established for so long. I work hard to ensure that my clients feel safe and supported throughout this process. By creating a comfortable and lighthearted environment, individuals, families, and couples are able to gain some reprieve from the difficulties they are experiencing. This allows change to begin to occur in the lives of my clients.

As an AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists) certified sex therapist, and an LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) for over 20 years, I can offer a vast array of knowledge and clinical experience to my couples.
We all have a story to tell. Our lives are full of hopes and dreams, fears and struggles. No matter if the client in front of me is a twenty year old struggling with their gender or sexual identity, a couple in their 40's experiencing mismatched desire, or a sixty year old with sexual dysfunction concerns, we all need someone to listen and support us. I consider myself to be an empathetic therapist. I want to support my client as best. I also know that it isn't easy to go to therapy and I want to be someone who starts with where the client is at, but also know that I can be direct at times if needed, and softer at other times.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
