If you're suffering from depression, traumatic memories, anxiety, or OCD, Image Transformation Therapy (ImTT) can restore your effectiveness in the world and the balance in your life. I developed ImTT while working at Camp Pendleton Marine Base because I needed a treatment that could release the most intense pain, terror, and memories without the person having to experience the feelings or relive the memories. The result is that ImTT treatment enables a person to live without self-consciousness and fear -- spending more of their life in the "creative zone."

As a psychotherapist, I use a holistic approach that blends clinical research with Eastern wisdom. I have trained extensively for a decade with renowned Psychiatrist, Dr. Jeffery M. Schwartz in his Four Step Method, which combines Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with the Buddhist principle of Mindfulness. Although, the Four Steps was originally created to treat OCD, my recent collaboration in the advancement of the Four Steps has shown that it is also successful for various circumstances including anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, and eating disorders. My work is highlighted in Dr. Jeffrey M. Schwartz's new book, "You Are Not Your Brain".

I am always curious about what brings clients into psychotherapy at a particular juncture of their lives and what they are hoping to be different as a result of conversations with someone like me. Once the responses to this curiosity are articulated and there is a clear purpose and direction for therapy, I listen for what a client already knows and what the client strengths and personal resources currently are and what they have been in the past. This becomes the context for conversations which have the possibility of leading toward preferred changes in the client's life and in its direction.

In addition, I enjoy working with older adolescents and young adults who have been frustrated in trying to capitalize on their strengths & achieve their personal & professional goals. In my experience, our suffering stems from a lack of self-acceptance and self-compassion. I have also realized that it is not until we are willing to take that first step of looking at ourselves kindly and respectfully, that we begin to live life fully. If you are feeling stuck dealing with difficult situations or repeating unhealthy habits, I can help.

Depression, anxiety or addictions can happen to anyone. They may be an unconscious result of painful events, medical problems, stress, trauma or possibly a sign of a life out of balance. Are there behaviors that negatively impact your work or home life such as a drug/alcohol, gambling, internet gaming, pornography, exercise, sex/love or food preoccupation? Bringing these behaviors into balance will dramatically impact the quality of your life experience! As your partner in healing, I embrace all avenues you want to explore: Holistic health, EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapy, 12-step or other religious/spiritual approaches.

Hey! You’ve likely arrived here because you’ve been in a dark place and might be ready for a change. You’re tired of carrying around the burden of your trauma, anxiety, or the weight of your substance use or secret addiction. Or you’re concerned about a loved one’s unhealthy behaviors. Maybe you feel ashamed and alone but the fear of being judged is finally being outweighed by the possibility that things could be better. Life is really hard, but we can do hard things with support. How I can help: •We can collaborate if you have ever had substance use concerns or addictive behaviors - past or present, in recovery or ongoing.

You aren’t quite where you thought you would be in life. Whether comparing yourself to others, experiencing a change in financial, mental or physical health, or pain and suffering in general, you are hesitant to make a change. Overall, you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out. Daily, it is hard to overcome the intrusive or negative thoughts and feelings. If experiencing a life transition, you feel alone or vulnerable to what are the right next steps. If in a relationship, maybe you find it challenging to talk about and it is starting to impact your relationship. You are exhausted, vulnerable, and ready for a change.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
