I have experience working with young adults and adults who have experienced relationship issues, dysfunctional family dynamics, trauma, addiction, personality disorders, depression and anxiety.
Although I believe that the goals of therapy are always first and foremost determined by my clients, I generally hold the hope for each of them that they will find more joy in life. To that end, I believe in an eclectic theoretical approach, one that draws on a wide range of perspectives including humanist/existential philosophy, Jungian psychodynamics, trauma-informed and client-centered practice, because I believe people are eclectic. Because I have both personal and professional experience with this work, I view the relationship between client and therapist as central and fundamental to the therapeutic process being effective.

Friends and family are great resource. They care about you and are often so uneasy with seeing you upset that it's difficult for them to help you address the hard areas in life. Because they don't want to see you unhappy, they often tell you 'want' to hear when a good therapist will help you discover what you need to hear. Whether it be situational (relational issues, job-loss, unexpected death) or something more long-term like trauma, addiction, depression and anxiety. Investing time with a licensed therapist can help. You are stronger and more resilient than you realize and I look forward to working with you.

I know what it is like to reach out for support. As a compassionate and experienced therapist, I understand that taking the first step towards therapy can be daunting. I approach therapy as a collaborative journey, fostering a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My aim is to help clients gain deeper insights into themselves and their life experiences, fostering self-awareness and resilience. I believe in the powerful connection between the mind and body, integrating mindfulness practices into therapy to empower clients with effective stress management techniques.

Overcoming our trials and our weaknesses is one of the hardest things we can do in life. Whether it be individually, as a couple, or as a parent, facing our challenges will be our only path to happiness. There is no "around" the struggles of life, there is only through. Without a navigating source, the path often feels impossible to find. I believe in people's ability to grow, to change and live in a way that leaves no regrets. We are not meant to go through life standing alone - healthy connection is happiness, that connection must often start with ourselves.

I believe that there is hope for a bigger and brighter future through motivating, empowering, and educating. My journey to becoming a therapist began when I found myself a passerby in my life and not loving the life I was living. This was when I discovered my passion for helping others to once again find love for life, empowerment, and purpose by using your own personal strengths, past experiences, and desire for change.

Chances are there is not going to be a quick fix or band aid remedy available to your problem or situation. However, finding the solution does not need to be too far from reach and it would be my intent to make the journey look less daunting. Yet, when it comes to addressing those negative behaviors or addictive traits that often impact our ability to form or maintain a quality of life or healthy relationships. It is important that we are deliberate, calculated, and consistent in our method of treatments. We can start doing this together by creating a space that is conducive with rigorous honesty and vulnerability.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
