I am certified in Internal Family Systems which is a non-pathologizing therapeutic modality that focuses on personal growth and healing.
As the Greek Philosopher, Heraclitus, stated, "The only constant in life is change." We all experience transitions in life, but we do not need to go through them alone. Similar to hiring an architect when building a house, or a personal trainer when working on fitness goals, my role is to assist you in navigating your way through the twists and turns of life's transitions.

I am one of the very few Maudsley-trained therapists providing Family-Based Treatment (FBT) in Michigan.
I practice evidence-based treatment rooted in science. My goals are to help clients alter negative repetitive patterns, defuse from overwhelming destructive behaviors, and create movement toward what is really important in their lives. I use acceptance and mindfulness skills, combined with behavior-change strategies, to help clients increase psychological flexibility. I believe that psychological suffering is caused by avoiding emotions and life experiences, which results in psychological rigidity, and greater suffering.

I am a motivational therapist. I teach what helped me to stop feeling preoccupied with pennies and getting occupied making millions. I will first understand you, where you are. Baseline. One of the best solutions to reduce depression (the past) and anxiety (the future) is to joyfully live in the present. The "broken records" of verbal and other addictions are not your friends. Joy and productivity are your friends, along with the friend who never offers you negative news. As we learn, changes must generalize from each meeting to other settings with helpful tools for your greatest life experiences.

My ideal client has clear, agreed upon goals and is ready to make transformations in their life and their experience; someone who is ready to do the work to find relief from suffering, not just learning to tolerate suffering. I use innovative approaches to find what works for you to make a change. I consider it an honor to walk with people on their life journey if even for only 45 minutes once a week for some time. You are not alone, with help you will be well again.

Using various forms of psychotherapy, I assist individuals, couples and families in addressing the challenges that interrupt their lives, and reduce their “quality of life. Most of these issues occur in the context of relationships that we have with ourselves and with others.

First of all, I want to express how happy I am that you're here! Seeking out a mental health provider is a HUGE step and I am here and ready to help. I have experience working with various populations, from childhood to middle adulthood. My areas of specialty include LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, anxiety, depression, trauma, codependence, and life transitions. I spent my first few years post-graduation working in Community Mental Health (CMH), so I also understand deeply the impact of socioeconomic factors on mental health and physical wellbeing.

Our lives can be chaotic and we all need support to make sense of the chaos. Challenges in life can be opportunities for growth, and that growth is tough work to do alone. Whether that chaos manifests itself in a battle with depression or anxiety, challenges in a relationship, or navigating life following a transition, loss, or diagnoses, hope and healing are possible.

I work with clients who feel burned out - whether at work, in school, or any other area of life - but who have responsibilities they can't just walk away from. I understand the challenges that come with trying to thrive under alienating, capitalistic conditions.

If you are making the brave decision to seek out therapy, I sincerely commend you! You are taking a very courageous first step, one that can lead to potential life-changing healing and wholeness. Perhaps you are stuck in the damaging aftermath of trauma/abuse, and you cannot seem to pull yourself out of the nightmare of the past. Or perhaps you have felt your life torn apart and controlled by the claws of an addiction, and you feel helplessly stuck in the cycle of your habit. Or possibly you have been struggling all alone with the silent symptoms of a mental illness, and you are too afraid or ashamed to reach out and ask for help.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
