Hi! Thank you for looking over my page! I enjoy working with teens and adults and have over 20 years of experience. My greatest passion lies in working on relationships: the relationship you have with yourself and the relationships you have with those around you. For younger clients, it is to bring more self-awareness into their frame of reference. My ideal client participates in the session. Tell me your thoughts on our progress, on how we do things, on your goals. If you're unsure, I'll start, and we can adjust as we go. Welcome to YOUR team. You're the captain and the one who makes the decisions.

Being listened to and understood is apart of all of our desires and achieving this, for you, is my goal as a counselor. I believe counseling is obtaining help and encouragement to work towards personal discoveries that develops one small decision, followed by one small intentional act, repented over and over to gain personal well- being. To be able to live the rest of our life in peace, and satisfaction. To have peace of mind of who you are and a sense of well-being.

I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. I have experience working with men, women, and children. I believe showing up authentically with ourselves and others is one of the bravest and most liberating things we can do in our lives. Therapy is a safe place to remember who we truly are and discover the power that each of us possess to create a life that we enjoy.

Hello! I have had the privilege of working closely with many individuals suffering from issues such as chronic depression and loneliness, relationship difficulties, obsessions and compulsions, abandonment fears and attachment anxieties, and trauma-related symptoms. You may be seeking relief from similar difficulties, hoping to navigate complex life situations, and/or simply seeking greater self-understanding or insight. Psychotherapy can often be of immense help in achieving these goals.

My approach to psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families is informed by my training in family therapy, understanding of family systems, experiences working with families of mentally ill individuals and psychiatric rehabilitation--an approach to teaching impaired individuals skills to succeed in selected environments.
I have extensive experience in performing forensic psychological evaluations for criminal and civil courts in Michigan in my prior appointment at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry and independent practice. In addition to performing evaluations I can provide consultations for attorneys and individuals negotiating those systems

Life presents each of us with a rich tapestry of joys and sorrows, successes and failures, hills and valleys. Perhaps you have recently encountered a hardship in your life. Maybe you are surrounded with the trappings of a "successful" life, yet deep down, you still feel unhappy. You might feel pulled in all directions by the demands associated with each of your roles in life (e.g. spouse, sibling, child, co-worker, friend, etc.) You may find yourself overspending, working too much, or engaging in other self-defeating habits. Being a human being is hard work. None of us are meant to travel the complex road of life by ourselves.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
