Over the past 13 years, I have worked with a variety of challenges ages 5 to 75. With a double Masters degree in School Counseling and Mental Health, I have a unique training background. Skilled in relationship counseling that reaches family, school and personal issues, I would like the opportunity to talk with you more about how my training and experience can assist you or your family. When you can't look on the bright side, I will sit with you in the dark. Life is difficult. Sometimes we need the help of others who have walked through difficult things themselves and have walked this journey with others.

Are you a first-time parent trying to figure out which way is up? Are you a parent of a child who is struggling emotionally or behaviorally? Do you want to set better boundaries? Develop better coping skills? Change negative patterns? For the past 7 years, I have served as an elementary school counselor, working closely with students, parents, and teachers- navigating a range of social, emotional, and mental health scenarios. I believe that every person is unique and that the best way to help them is by building a strong relationship built on trust, respect, acceptance, and empathy. I am neurodiversity-affirming.

My goal is to help people discover their own ability to achieve change in their lives. Many times I hear people describe themselves as broken or damaged because they are unable to just "get over it". Often, these degrading narratives overwhelm and we can find ourselves experiencing anxiety, depression and even substance abuse issues. The good news is that using modern, evidence-based techniques we can not only resolve the issues that have led you to seek counseling, but make you better equipped in the future to handle life challenges as they arise.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist with 18 years of experience. I am devoted to living this precious life well and to support others to do the same. The focus of my practice is to help others identify the habits and patterns operating in their lives that are not working in their best interests, then support them to find freedom from them, so that they are no longer haunted by the past or paralyzed by fears of the future, but rather are then free to pursue their hopes and dreams. Together we can allow the sirens of our symptoms to guide us toward health and wellbeing.

I love introducing people to Gospel freedom and hope. My background in substance abuse counseling included a strong emphasis on family systems. My work as a pastor gave me an opportunity to take an understanding of systems and brokenness and apply it to marriages and families. Working for a decade in a school deepened my experience with crisis intervention, grief, trauma, and the wonderful ways connecting with creation can be part of God’s healing grace in our lives.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults. It is my goal to help these individuals work through struggles with attachment/relationships, anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and more at their own pace. As a neurodivergent, I am passionate about helping others learn how to function with and to love their own neurodivergence. I also enjoy working with parents (biological, foster, adoptive) who want to better their relationship, communication, understanding, and/or attachment with their children. I work diligently to maintain a safe and affirming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their families.

"We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are." -Anais Nin per Talmudic origin. We must create things twice; once in our minds, and once articulated. When we think our thoughts, it lights up one part of the brain, and when we speak our thoughts, it lights up a different part of the brain. There is often something very different when we articulate our thoughts, and they change in some way. Talking out these experiences in a narrative way assists us in making sense of how we feel about those experiences.

I work with adults who are seeking greater connection to their bodies and innate creativity. Adults seeking personal transformation will develop their intuition and enhance their connection to self and others through dance/movement therapy. Whether someone has never danced before or has a movement background, this work can help heal trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. Many clients wonder if this is doable in telehealth, and it is! We also use a great deal of talking, implementing coping skills, optional homework, and EMDR when appropriate.

Through the ups and downs of life, one thing remains a constant— you. I help my clients foster a relationship with themselves with a sense of curiosity, acceptance, and grace. Life can be tough and confusing, but you are strong and resilient. I want to walk alongside you, hear your story, and offer a safe space for expression and exploration. It is my belief that people make sense- the person who starves themselves, or isolates when sad, or can’t find relief from that nervous feeling in their stomach, all make sense. You are not alone. Let’s walk towards healing together.

It takes tremendous courage to choose to walk through difficult places on the path towards healing, and it takes even more courage to invite a counselor to walk with you. I consider it an honor to join with my clients as they face the challenges in life, whether it be wounds from trauma, struggles with managing mood and thoughts, issues with relational functioning, sexuality or unhealthy coping. I believe there is power in relationship and I consider it a joy to help clients learn how to better relate to themselves, others and the world around them.

You are worthy and you are enough. Those seven words can feel like an unreachable mindset, I know. Trauma, abuse, neglect, grief, and the weight of caring for others more than yourself can make that phrase feel hollow. Anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, and isolation are truly exhausting. If you are reading this, I want you to know you are not alone and you’ve already taken the only step you have to on your own: you’ve done the hard work of reaching out. FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Chattanooga?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
