In all areas of treatment, I strive to help people achieve their full potential and purpose in life by walking with the hurting and those that have lost hope. I believe everyone has unique value and I desire to help each client meet their maximum potential. There are often many obstacles and roadblocks in the journey of life. Many individuals seek counseling because they are experiencing difficulties in their relationships with their spouse, family, work, or friendships.

Relationships are of utmost value for many of us. As valuable as they are for us they can be equally rewarding and challenging. Satisfaction in relationships can be influenced by many variables. When our relationships are in a place where we feel stuck, dissatisfied, not loved or valued is when one starts questioning the ability to continue moving forward. Research has shown this affect our overall health and satisfaction in life. I have been working with children and families for over 25 years. I believe in a down to earth approach that utilizes cognitive behavioral strategies to help adolescents, adults and families work through life's challenges. I also have an expertise in child therapy, including the use of play therapy techniques. I have provided counseling to people who are working through life's struggles to include divorce, depression, anxiety, abuse, military issues, as well as other concerns. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Athens University in Behavioral Science, and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from A&M University. Susan has been in practice in North Alabama for the past 25 years, with experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She has served a variety of populations, and has led individual, group, marital, and family therapy sessions. She currently works with children, adolescents and adults in therapy. As both a therapist and a person, I understand that life sometimes serves up hard-to-categorize problems that can be overwhelming. I'm very familiar with issues like depression, anxiety, and addiction, and my training and certification in EMDR allows me to be especially effective with trauma resolution and attachment repair. My career started on a hospital behavioral health inpatient unit, which has allowed me to become comfortable with some pretty intense situations, but my background is varied and I work well with all ages.
