I want to empower youth. I want young people to feel confident in who they are by communicating their needs to others. I want to help your teen strengthen their identity, self-confidence, self-esteem, self-love, and self-worth. The stage of life from adolescence to adulthood is full of challenges. Most are seeking independence, respect, and autonomy, but often feel “stuck” due to personal experiences, peers, family, and cultural pressures. This can cause them to feel overwhelming emotions and not feel "enough" in their lives.

Are you struggling with moods that seems to run rampant and come out of nowhere? Did you recently give birth and are struggling with hormone changes, depression, or anxiety? Perhaps you and your partner have been told expanding your family is no longer an option. Are you feeling lost and untethered? These are issues I can help you with. Climbing out of the darkness can seem like a long, lonely, and difficult task, however you are not alone in your thoughts and you are not the first person to feel the way you do. I am here to help one step at a time.

When we can no longer accept the things we cannot change, we must change the things we cannot accept. Beginning a therapeutic journey can be an intimidating process, however, it is the first step towards growth, exploration, and change. Whether you are suffering with anxiety, depression, or relationship issues or you are interested in self-exploration, I believe that having a compassionate and non-judgmental therapist can make all the difference. My clinical focus includes working with LGBTQIA+ folks, self-esteem, and family of origin issues. I am passionate about providing a safe, validating, and affirming space for all.

My name is Vanessa, I am a Caribbean born, and native New Yorker. I settled in South Florida with a passion to build families and strengthen individual connections. As a middle child, I grew up feeling unseen and unheard in a dysfunctional family dynamic, which led me to search for love and validation. As I grew into adulthood, I found healing and acceptance through conversations with close friends and professionals. It was during these times that really helped me and led me to where I am now. For the past decade, I have utilized an eclectic therapeutic style that integrates various research-based modalities tailored to each client!

All of us, over the course of our lives, have found ourselves faced with challenging life events - some small and others so much bigger than ourselves that we become overwhelmed and unable to face them alone. We may experience feelings of grief, loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflicts, marital strife, illness, or addiction to mention a few. However, what is most important is that we not face these alone, and remember there is help and relief. Each one of us has a sense of resiliency to meet our life challenges - even in our worst times. Finding that resiliency is the beginning to healing and living our best lives.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
