I offer different types of therapeutic avenues to explore, rework, release and address challenges old or new. We decide the timetable and scope of therapy together whether very focused change is desired or more in depth reworking is wanted. Some people also use therapy to maintain positive gains and have a unique place to speak/ find the truth in a safe, trusting environment. The focus is on enhancing and building on strengths to realize potential based on needs. I use brainspotting, polyvagal informed therapy (Unyte/ILS listening system) and IFS(Internal Family Systems) to deeply and often more rapidly release blocked/frozen issues

I am a Licensed Master of Social Work. In this day and time Mental Health is something that is not only overlooked but often misunderstood.  I strive to provide needed support for my clients no matter what life challenges they may be facing. I work with them to pilot through these challenges of life, whether they are personal, with family, or with peers.  My ideal clients are millennials who find themselves facing challenges navigating through the transition to adulthood. In many cases, this transition can cause stress, anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues.

I have a general private practice seeing adolescents and adults in individual, couples and family therapies. Among my areas of work are: couples transitioning to parenthood, working with women who are experiencing prenatal and postpartum issues, families having young children with disabilities, parenting difficulties, relationship problems, adolescents and young adults struggling with life transitions, and general stress, anxiety and depression. My approach to psychotherapy is integrative, drawing from many sources particularly psychodynamic and relational principles. As a psychotherapist, my goal is to be present with you, providing a safe space to explore what emerges during the therapy sessions.

I integrate family systems, attachment and developmental models, Gottman, IMAGO, EFT, DBT, Schema, Relational Life Therapy.
Finding the right therapist for YOU and the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors associated with positive therapy results. I place primary importance on our relationship providing an atmosphere of safety, warmth and understanding. While I have a wealth of professional and personal knowledge and expertise in individual and family recovery from addictions/compulsive behaviors, family of origin issues and life patterns that prevent authentic living, I do not approach the relationship as an "expert" but rather as a supportive guide who joins you on the journey. I am passionate about all things relational.

Among my eclectic mix of professional orientations are Psychoanalytic, Humanistic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, Adlerian and Client Centered approaches.
As a professional counselor I value the uniqness of each person and in the strength and creativity of the human spirit. Within the counseling relationship is a safe place to define areas for growth, vent feelings, explore the many possibilities, find encouragement and move toward peacefulness. My approach to counseling is gentle and encouraging, although I can be direct when it is helpful. I will support without judging and am respectful of individual and/or cultural differences. My approach draws on a number of theoretical orientations that best suit the group or individual needs.

My niche is child, teen and young adult therapy and I specialize in depression/mood disorders, anxiety, self-harm, trauma, attachment issues, suicidal ideation, and family conflict.
Are you a young adult having a difficult time navigating life's obstacles and feel like an emotional hostage to any trauma or stressors experienced in your early life? Are you the parent of a child or teen struggling with mental health or behavioral challenges? Life is too short to allow emotional distress, trauma, negative relationships, or mental health and behavioral challenges to shackle you. Imagine a life where you or your child are actively healing from emotional pain, and have successfully found meaning and purpose in your school/work, relationships, and other life areas. This life IS possible.

Life is often not easy. And even when it is good, it can be challenging. We all struggle, wonder, and do our best with all that we have been given - our families and stories, our hopes and fears, abilities and blindspots. Psychotherapy can provide a place to better understand our stories or to heal from past traumas. It can help us address challenges in our relationships or develop new and better ways of being together. It can also provide a safe space to explore ourselves, to better understand who we are and what we want and need in order to live the life we have been given in the best way possible.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
