The prevalence of self-injurious behaviors among the adolescent population is on the rise, including suicide, and presents a serious concern. Behaviors may involve cutting, carving the skin, self-embedding, etc. Adolescent self-reports indicate these harmful behaviors may help to alleviate their emotional pain and stress, and are used as a way of coping. I provide therapy that focuses on effective alternatives to coping, exploration of underlying cause of emotional pain, and assist clients in gaining insight and knowledge about self, emotions, and coping. My approach is through CBT, and other approaches that meet the client's needs.
